http://news.fredericksburg.com/newsdesk/2014/04/04/decomposed-body-found-along-i-95-in-spotsy/

The body was found near the 125 mile marker of I-95 southbound in Virginia, in Spotsylvania County. "Police were unable to identify it as male or female."

The article describes the body as "badly decomposed." It was below freezing almost every night, and many days, from December to mid-March this winter. How long would it take a body to become "badly decomposed" but not skeletal?

Thanks for starting this!!

Ms. Suzanne, did they ever find this boy or announce his name? Seems odd they wouldn't release the child's name in a possible abduction.

There haven't been any updates with the body found last week, but it seems to take awhile to get information. If I don't see anything by the end of the week, I'm going to email the editor and ask if they're doing a follow-up.

They never knew who he was. No one reported a boy missing. Just witnesses saw a boy being pulled into a van and left his bike.

If anything, cold would preserve it more I believe.

Someone mentioned this on another thread I'm on.There was this possible abduction too I was really looking into awhile back. Have they found out any more on these remains found? Age, Gender ect...

They never found out if an abduction happened. No children have been reported missing from the area that match the description on the boy on the bike.

The area where the remains have been found are interesting in relation to alot of cases.

Robert Hourigan car was found in Maryland . If one was to take 95 to from Richmond ,they could exit 95 at the 126 b and take route 17 to 301 and be in Maryland in about 45 minutes.

Next is Bethany Decker ,who's grandmother lived in Maryland and who's mother lives in Fredericksburg.

Then Samantha Clark is missing from Orange .

There is a man missing who's truck was located off the 126 area but I cannot remember his name.

There are also Ramona Denise Brehun missing from 2011 .

Most of the bodies found on the interstate nearby have been from other places.

Oh, weird. We went on vacay to OBX last year and we stayed at a hotel about a mile north of here. I really felt pretty safe in the area we were in. I did notice that at the hotel we were at there were a lot of pick-up trucks, work trucks, etc. it seemed like contractors maybe being housed there while they were working locally on a job, even though it wasn't your typical extended-stay hotel. There was a ton of construction on 95 just north of this area stretching all the way towards the beltway, so not sure if that's what they were working on, or some storm damage from Superstorm Sandy months before, or something else totally unrelated. But maybe worth looking into if anyone like that is missing?

A witness said they saw Hourihan's car the night he disappeared by the Fifth Street exit in Charlottesville. If the body is Hourihan's, the perp could have taken Route 20 to 3 to I-95, gone south a couple of miles and dumped the body, then gotten off at the next exit, turned around and headed up north.

I think Hourihan's body would be way more than "badly decomposed" at this point, unless he was kept alive for awhile.

Another name that has come up in connection is Alexis Murphy, missing since August 2013. Victim: Alexis Murphy, 17, missing from Shipman, VA, 03 August 2013 - #7 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community She was last seen in Lovingston, VA, about two hours from where this body was found; the man charged with her murder is also from Lovingston.

I agree though, this could really be anyone, especially anyone from the states 95 runs through.

It also seems like, if this was foul play, the dumping must have occurred around 1-4 a.m., when traffic was minimal. I wonder if it is possible to approach the spot where the body was from another direction besides the interstate?

Do we know if it's male or female yet?

No, still no new information that I can find. I've been searching Google news for "Spotsylvania body" and checking the Fredericksburg news site every day.

Benjamin Loyd Coffey

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/MissingPersons.shtm

His car was found in Tappahannock.

I still cannot find the name of the man who's truck was found in spotslyvania.

He was listed on the VA state police website ,but he is not currently and neither is Ramona Burton.

Now that I think about it a few people have been removed .

I feel like they misspelled his tattoo.... it should probably read "coheed cambria" (full name "coheed and cambria") anyway, neither here nor there.

And furthermore that guy looks so, so familiar..

This is close to home and my step son and granddaughter live very near there.
The first person I thought of was Alexis Murphy but there is such a long list for the area. Its scary.

I always felt Bethany Decker is alive and well and her family knows her whereabouts. I hope I am right.

There is a comment on the article that mention the man who found the body and it where abouts and puts a time period for the body. It is a rumor however.

I had suspected this man was not actually on 95 but rather in the area along side it which is close to stores.

The described area is across from a trailer park, I believe there "used to be" a dirt road where people would dump illegal trash.

If you pull up google maps and search for staples in the zip code 22553 you should be able to view the area.
There is a hospital nearby as well.

I just sent an email to the reporter who wrote last week's story asking if LE gave any timeframe for an ID or at least more information. I'll post here if I hear back.

The reporter replied to me! She said it could be a few weeks before results are in.

I heard a rumor today from a member of a Spotsylvania rescue squad, that the remains were estimated to have been there about six months, and there was a good amount of cash with the victim.

Six months would put us in the time frame of November. However it would be hard to guess if that was accurate.

It's been years since I was in this area...is it possible this person could have been walking along I-95 and is a victim of hit and run? If the body was found in a ditch behind the rail right off I-95, then it's possible this isn't a dumping ground at all. Not saying the victim was hit by a semi, but I have relatives who drive big rigs and they all say it's easy to hit things and not feel it while you're driving. My husband and I actually witnessed this a few years ago when an S-10 pulled out from Walmart on 460 and slammed right into the side of the rig's trailer...the tractor trailer driver kept going and we just assumed he never knew what hit him...the road was bumpy along there anyhow. I hope they identify this victim soon...so sad to know they were there beside the road all that time in all this bad weather we've had this winter.
