Bahamas - Edgar Dart, 56, Emerald Bay, 8 April 2014

A British man who lived in Manitoba, Canada, has been shot dead fighting back in a home invasion in the Bahamas, on Tuesday April 8th.

Edgar Dart, 56, was shot and then tied up along with five family members, and left to die for an hour as his helpless family looked on. The three masked robbers were also armed with a machete and George's nephew Pip, 29, received wounds.

"It took him around an hour to die and there was just nothing they could do for him", his brother in law said. Friends in Canada are mourning the loss of a man 'who always made you feel good', and who ran a feed business in the area.

The intruders cut the phone lines to the Emerald Bay, Grand Bahama home, belonging to Edgar's mother, before the attack. They stole jewellry and personal property. The death was the sixth murder on Grand Bahama this year.

Mr Dart emigrated to Canada 16 years ago. His family run a farm in rural Exeter, Devon, UK, and have spoken of their devastation.

Oh no, that article says family say Edgar's young son George, was also there and had to watch his father bleed to death over the course of an hour.

Please note, in my first post I wrote 'George's nephew Pip'. That should have been 'Edgar's nephew Pip'.

Philip Poole, Edgar's brother in law, has given an interview back in Canterbury, England.

He says Edgar was a tough guy and as soon as the invaders broke in, he 'remonstrated' with them. So they just shot him.

I'd say he was protective as well as tough; his mom, young son and other relatives were there and maybe he was afraid what would be done to them?

BIL also says information from Bahamas' authorities is very scant and he's getting the impression they don't want to damage the tourist trade.

BIL's own son was slashed with a machete. I think that may have been what Edgar feared for them all.

    From April 2015:

    http://www.tribune242.com/news/2015/...der-edgar-dar/

Police press officer Inspector Terecita Pinder said the case is still open and high on their list of unsolved murders. A $25,000 reward was issued last year, but no credible leads have been generated in the case.

Dart, 56, was a wealthy farmer who lived in Canada. He traveled to Freeport with his 13-year-old son, George, to spend the Easter holiday with relatives...

The Dart family owned a sprawling home in a very upscale canal front residential community. It is believed that the home has been put on the market, following the tragedy. The home sits on the prime location on the Grand Lucayan Waterway.

The mother and sister of murdered British visitor Edgar Dart said their entire family has been left deeply affected by his death in Grand Bahama two years ago and want closure.

April 8 marked two years since the shooting death and robbery at the family’s home in Freeport, and there has been no arrest in the case by police in Grand Bahama.
