    TX - Gabriel Verdin, 19, Channelview, 8 April 2014

    Gabriel Verdin

    Bourg teen reported missing -

A 19-year-old man from Bourg has been missing in Texas since Tuesday when he got off the towboat he had been traveling on for work, his father said today. Gabriel Verdin, 19, was last seen by one of his coworkers Tuesday night around 9:30. Verdin was playing pool with a man he had met in the bar when his co-worker entered the bar's restroom. When he returned to the bar, Verdin was gone along with the man he had been playing pool with, his father said.

Sounds like he didn't want to tell his friend he was leaving for whatever reason. Wishing him well!

According to the article, he told the bartender he was going outside to look for his friend. Maybe he didn't realize his friend was in the bathroom...

Witnesses said Verdin, despite being underage, walked to nearby Starlight Lounge around 7 p.m. with his co-worker.

After a few drinks, Verdin asked a man at the bar for a ride back to the boat because his co-worker didn't want to leave just yet.

The two then left the bar. Witnesses said the man returned about a half hour later without Verdin. The co-worker was still there. That was the last anyone saw or heard from Verdin.

Verdin's family made the 325-mile drive from Montegut, La., to Channelview to look for the teen.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

So who is this man??? It's hard to believe he'd return to the bar if he'd hurt the young man. On the other hand, a good way to CYA is to play innocent.

It seems pretty likely to me that the man DID give Gabriel a ride back to the dock, and since Gabriel had "had a few drinks" he somehow slipped and fell off the dock and drowned.

I think the sister posting under that article has a sweet view of her brother, but she's maybe wearing rose-colored glasses.

In re-reading, it's confusing what SW is saying. We know Gabriel left the bar somewhere around 9:30 with a stranger, who returned to the bar around 11 without Gabriel. Then at 2 a.m. the witness hears Gabriel crying out for help and his friend calling desperately for him?

That doesn't point the finger at the stranger who gave him the ride.

New chronicle article, and "no signs of foul play" were immediately evident. Medical examiner report pending.

The body, which was found by the Houston Police Department's Marine Division, has not been positively identified as Verdin, Harris County sheriff's spokesman Thomas Gilliland said.

Even without conclusive evidence that it is Verdin, his family is already mourning his loss, Pitre said.

“We're not 100 percent sure, but at the moment, it's very likely that it's him,” Pitre said. “We are all just so hurt right now.”
