Search for missing man near Lake Wohlford in Valley Center scaled back -

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has scaled back the search around Lake Wohlford in Valley Center for a missing 43-year-old man.

Michael Raymond Reeder was reported missing by his mother who lives in Northern California. Prior to the call from his mother, the California Highway Patrol and Lake Wohlford rangers discovered his empty vehicle parked in a secluded area on Oakvale Road.

It's really odd to me that not a single article that's mentioned this body found in the last 24 hours has mentioned Michael Reeder as possibly being the ID on it...to me it seems highly likely. Reeder had been on foot coming from another direction, but wandering around in that area could very easily have ended up being up in the Hellhole Preserve area.

Hordes of articles about this find yesterday, every one of them saying if you had any tips or possibly ID to call it in, basically, but I'd have to think surely LE would be looking into this given the brief hunt for Reeder that was called off just hours into his disappearance the week prior.

Given that they couldn't access the body easily yesterday it also fits with someone who had gotten further in, and coming from the Lake Wolford area could fit with that.

Plus it mentions having been there a few days and animal activity, which also could very much fit.

Personally I'd suspect this is him.

I'm just surprised none of the local news stories have connected it as a possibility that I've seen (on twitter or in articles) yet. Maybe local news tonight will say more.

It'd be awfully odd to have a missing male in the same general area and a found deceased male in that same area and it not be related...especially in just a week's time and no one else known to be missing there!

As far as Reeder, some of this hadn't been in initial news here or had been glossed over, so here's some from Lake Wolford that may be new.

CHP and Lake Wohlford Rangers discovered Reeder's empty vehicle parked in a secluded area on Oakvale Road on April 8. The abandoned vehicle had actually been at the location for three days prior, according to Lt. Dan Breslin of the Valley Center Sheriff Office Substation.

"It had been there for almost a week before we moved on it," said Breslin. "CHP actually found it and put a 72 hour hold on it."

They got the call on April 11th from NoCal stating that a missing person's report was filed by his mom, and so the combination of the car there for a week, plus the mission person's report caused the search on the 11th and 12th.

They did a major search using a host of resources:

...approximately 80 personnel, including K9s, mounted, and the Sheriff's Dive Team searching the area around and in Lake Wohlford. Other agencies assisting the search effort were the Lake Wohlford Rangers, USBP BORSTAR, and Red Cross.

Because of his known violent history and his known associates around Lake Wohlford, all volunteers were pulled and they only had actual LE looking (which is not how it was portrayed initially - which sounded more like it was called off entirely - though it has been since.

This also was new (to me):

Breslin said SDCSD doesn't know for certain that Reeder is actually in the area and that an ASTREA helicopter is currently being utilized in the search.

It was only the car find that made them think he may be in the area. There was nothing else at all indicating he may be.
