NY - Queen Washington, 11, stabbed to death, Brooklyn, 30 May 2005

Children learn this behavior. What has this 9 year old had to live with in her own home? I'd be curious to know if this family has a history with DFACS. I'd bet they do. It just goes to show that now a days you have to be so careful who you let your children be friends with. You never know what kind of situation you're introducing your child to.

The 9-year-old girl accused of killing her best friend claims her teen brother egged her on moments before she jammed a knife into her pal's chest, police sources and witnesses said yesterday.
As 11-year-old Queen Washington lay dying in a hallway, the youngest murder suspect in city memory ran barefoot to a neighbor's home and said her brother had goaded her into the attack, the witnesses and sources said.

"Oh, you're going to sit there and go for that?" her 15-year-old brother teased as she and Queen fought over a rubber ball inside a Brooklyn apartment, the girl told neighbor Thomas Davis.

Friends and neighbors of the Brooklyn 9-year-old who plunged a kitchen knife into her best friend's heart in a scuffle over a pink rubber ball angrily blamed the young attacker's absent, alcoholic mother yesterday for the Memorial Day tragedy.
Furious relatives of 11-year-old victim Queenie Washington also pointed a finger at the mom, rather than her knife-wielding daughter.

"Who was watching the children?" said Queenie's enraged aunt, Sharon Washington

The youngest person anybody can remember being arrested for homicide in this city walked silently into Part 10 at Brooklyn Family Court just before 5 p.m. yesterday in a white top and faded blue jeans, looking too small and slight to hurt anybody.
The girl's hair was brushed straight back and her face was devoid of discernible emotion, as if she were still blankly watching television in the holding area upstairs where she had spent the day. Her wide eyes did not search out her mother or anybody else as she slipped into the first empty chair she encountered.

Neighbors said the 9-year-old was a troubled child.

"She was a little ," neighbor Diva McPhatter told the Daily News. "I always asked her to behave, but she was rude. She fought all the time. She was out of control. I'd confront her, but she'd just roll her eyes."

And when it happened she ran to a neighbor and said her boy made her do it. This kid doesn't think she's accountable for any of her actions.

A 9-year-old Brooklyn girl denied charges yesterday that she stabbed her best friend with a steak knife during a fight over a rubber ball on Memorial Day.
Dazed and dressed in black, the diminutive suspected killer clutched her mother's hand in Brooklyn Family Court as she was charged with manslaughter and other crimes in the death of 11-year-old Queen Washington.

"She denies the charges," said defense lawyer Nicole Barnum as the frail girl watched quietly.

Prosecutor Suzette Rivera revealed that the girl only "recently" had learned that her alleged actions killed Queen at 1:30 p.m. Monday inside the Linden Houses in East New York

Dressed like a little angel and quietly holding her mother's hand, the 9-year-old Brooklyn girl cops say fatally stabbed her best friend in the heart pleaded innocent to manslaughter charges yesterday.
The petite and seemingly proper youngster — described as the devil's spawn by neighbors — appeared cool and calm as she entered Brooklyn Supreme Court, but her mother was a wreck, silently sobbing as they stood before Judge Jane Pearl.

Is a year and a half enough time for???

With singing, clapping and even dancing, Saturday's funeral service for 11-year-old Queen Washington was an emotional and rousing celebration that would be expected for someone with a royal moniker.

Queen's pink metal coffin was flanked by two pink, heart-shaped flower displays and a huge arrangement of yellow flowers in the shape of a crown with her name emblazoned across it in white flowers. It sat just beneath the pulpit where a stained glass mosaic overhead also featured a crown.

This is just so sad.

And no, I don't think 18 months is long enough honestly.

The 9-year-old girl accused of stabbing to death Queen Washington is mulling taking a plea deal that would keep her from having to go to trial, the girl's lawyer said yesterday.
At a hearing in Brooklyn Family Court, defense lawyer Nicole Barnum told a judge she needed time "to discuss possible resolutions to the case" with the girl and her mother.

Both sides have until Monday to tell the judge whether a deal has been reached.

A sobbing and sorrowful 9-year-old girl in ponytails and pink barrettes admitted to a judge yesterday that she "jabbed" her 11-year-old best friend to death with a knife.
"Me and Queenie was playing ball," the child told Brooklyn Family Court Judge Jane Pearl, wiping tears with a crumpled tissue. "We started fighting. I grabbed the knife. She was standing near to me.

"I know the knife is dangerous. I jabbed it in her direction," she continued, breaking into sobs as her lawyer rubbed her back to soothe her. "It went into Queenie!"

This story makes me sick

These little girls are from East New York, which is one of the poorest, most
crime ridden neighborhoods in the entire NYC area.
I'm sure their lives were not filled with candy, toys and carousels,
like many other girls their age.

I am not by any means excusing her actions....I just believe that this 9 year old girl needs SERIOUS mental help, and I really hope she gets it.
