    Nicaraugua - Karen Colclough, 37, Montelimar, 11 April 2014

    Karen Colclough

Lynnfield Native Missing in Nicaragua -

A Wyoming woman originally from Lynnfield has gone missing in Nicaragua. Karen Colclough, 37, of Wilson, Wyoming, was with a Christian mission group in Nicaragua when she disappeared on April 11. The six-person mission, organized by the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole and Agros International of Seattle, had finished its work and was at the Barcelo Montelimar resort, resting before heading home, according to her brother, Michael Colclough.
Family friend Victoria Howland told Boston.com that Colclough went for a walk late that morning carrying only a camera, notebook, and bible. A farmer told investigators he saw Colclough walking in a cane field a couple of hours after she left the resort, Howland said. “Karen is incredibly responsible. She’s a kind, sweet person. She would not have taken off like this and worry everyone,” said Howland.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

    Karen Colclough

Her brother Michael, who lives ins Meredith, N.H., told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 it is not known what happened. “I’m told that a local farmer saw her walking through a cane field toward some cliffs,” he said. “She had her Bible and a journal and camera with her and that’s all we know at this point.”

A Lynnfield native who was reported missing in Nicaragua has been found dead and a suspect is in custody.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

We are all one poor choice from being a subject on this forum. Think twice.

Reminds me of August Reiger. He went missing in Central America too.

She seemed like a good and kind soul, and there was no reason for this. Just plain evil is all I can see.

A Nicaraguan man was convicted on Monday of killing a 37-year-old U.S. missionary from Lynnfield, Mass., last April, the Nicaraguan daily La Prensa reported. Fernando Antonio Aburto Reyes, 35, murdered Karen Colclough during the course of an aggravated robbery and rape, a Nicaraguan court ruled...

Glenda Zavala, head of Nicaragua’s Judicial Police, told local reporters that Aburto strangled Colclough to death after stealing her camera. Police linked Aburto to the crime after he sold Colclough’s camera to a local resident for $27. Police said Aburto had scratch marks on his arms, indicating a struggle, according to the Nicaragua Dispatch...

The prosecution asked Judge Henryette Casco for the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. The individual charges of rape, aggravated robbery and homicide would carry 12, 6 and 24 years, respectively. The judge will sentence Aburto on July 11.
