Australia - Aurelie Lhorme, 30, Head of the Bight SA, 12 April 2014

    April 14, 2014

Police are trying to track down a couple in a motorhome as they investigate the disappearance of a young French tourist on South Australia's remote far west coast.

Aurelie Lhorme, 30, was last seen in her parked car on an access road about 10km from the Head of the Bight Whale Watching Centre, near the Nullabor Plain, on Saturday night.

Her Toyota sedan was found in the same site the following morning but Ms Lhorme was gone.

Police say they are concerned for her welfare as her mobile phone, wallet and passport were left in the car.

The keys were found on top of a tyre.

They believe Ms Lhorme may have had contact with the occupants of a Jayco motorhome before she slept in her car on Saturday.

Local and Adelaide police, including STAR Group officers, an Aboriginal tracker, a police dog, a crime scene investigator from Port Lincoln and SES volunteers from across the region are involved in the search.

Ms Lhorme’s car remains where it was left, behind a locked gate on the access road into the Head of Bight whale-watching centre, which has been closed while the search continues.

Police have turned away several tourists in cars, caravans and campervans this morning.

Wendy Wiese, from the centre, said the centre had been closed to allow police and SES to continue their search uninterrupted.

“We’re just playing it by ear at the moment, we’re not sure how long we’ll be closed,” she said.

“It’s probably not that healthy having tourists wandering around while they’re doing a search.”

Police want to speak with a couple seen in a Jayco motorhome near Head of Bight, west of Ceduna, around the time Aurelie Lhorme was last seen on Saturday night.

“I assume she was travelling from east to west, but I’m not certain of that. She was not known by anyone here.”

That's a huge trip for anyone on their own.
