Westley Devon Harris reinforced months of manipulating and tormenting his girlfriend by gunning down six members of her family, prosecutors said Tuesday - but the defense argued that Harris' girlfriend, Janice Ball, wanted her family dead.
"She'll tell you this - that she would do anything to be away from that family," Harris' attorney, Steve Townes, told the jury in opening arguments at his capital murder retrial. The defense argues that Ball was angry about what she has described as sexual abuse by her father and a brother.
