CINCINNATI - Apollo moon mission astronaut Neil Armstrong has threatened to sue a barbershop owner who collected Armstrong's hair after a trim and sold it for $3,000.

Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, used to go to Marx's Barber Shop in Lebanon about once a month for a cut. That stopped when he learned that owner Marx Sizemore had collected his hair clippings from the floor and sold them in May 2004 to a collector.

"I didn't deny it or anything," Sizemore said. "I told him I did it."

Sizemore said Armstrong asked him to try to retrieve the hair, but the buyer did not want to give it back.

"I called Neil back and told him that," Sizemore said. "Then I got this letter from his lawyer."

The letter contends that the sale violated an Ohio law designed to protect the rights of famous people. It threatens legal action if Sizemore does not return the hair or contribute his profit to charity and asks Sizemore to pay Armstrong's legal expenses.

Sizemore, who said he already spent most of the $3,000 on bills, told the lawyer who sent the letter, Ross Wales of Cincinnati, that he will not pay. Wales did not return a call seeking comment.

Sizemore said he sold the hair to an agent for John Reznikoff, a Westport, Conn., collector listed by Guinness World Records as having the largest collection of hair from historical celebrities. The collection, insured for $1 million, includes hair from Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein and Napoleon.

Oh get real! Maybe he should instead sue for the return of semen he left behind in women other than his wife.

Okay, that was just gross. :silenced: :silenced: :silenced: :silenced: :silenced: :silenced:

Where the heck have I been? Neil Armstrong - women? Wasn't he the space guy?

One small snip for man.... one giant scandal for mankind :D

The one reason I'm sortof sympathetic for him is that he is basically reclusive and doesn't try to earn money off his fame and for someone to turn around and do that kindof stinks.

It reminds me of the guy that tried to sale Britney Spears' ABC gum on ebay. Some things just shouldn't be sold.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but some people believe that hair and fingernails have powers...and they can be used against someone like in magic.

Mr Armstrong left his hair behind.... Doesn't that make it the barbers property now ??? I maen, was Mr Armgstrong going to clean it up and take it with him ?

How stupid.
If someone is weird enough to buy his hair, then who gives a rats behind.. Neil Armstrong is not out anything becuase of this..

I think it's a silly thing to sue for and, IMO, it should not go anywhere...

The first man to walk on the moon won't get his hair back. But he may get the current owner of the lost locks to donate $3,000 to a favorite charity.
The man who bought clippings of former astronaut Neil Armstrong's hair from a barbershop owner says he doesn't plan to give the hair back.

"Neil Armstrong has always been one of my heroes."

Reznikoff's collection, insured for $1 million, includes hair from Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein, Napoleon and others.

He contacted Armstrong's attorney about a donation after reading news accounts that the former astronaut threatened legal action if the barber didn't return the hair or donate $3,000 to a charity of Armstrong's choice.

I totally agree. I had read a while back that Mr. Armstrong was doing the Greta Garbo thing. Maybe he has a mental illness and the thought of his hair being sold really got to him in ways we cannot understand?

If he's suffering from a mental illness, that's one thing. If the law wasn't in place, I'd say get over it. However, since he's technically in the right, and wants the money to go to charity, what the hell. I would think that since the guy didn't take the money and blow it at the horse track or buy a new pinky ring, Armstrong would give him a break. The dude probably is a paycheck-to-paycheck kinda guy who needed the dough.

Am I the only one who thinks it is weird that the guy collects HAIR?

Reznikoff's collection, insured for $1 million, includes hair from Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein, Napoleon and others.

Hmmmmmm! I wonder how one know that the hair they bought from the dealer is really Napoleon's? How do you display hair?
