TX - Mary Elizabeth Broughton, 80, Brewster County, Feb 2014

    Mary Elizabeth Broughton

Brewster County Sheriff's Office Looking For Missing Woman -

According to their Facebook page Mary Elizabeth Broughton was last seen between the middle of February and early March. The Sheriff's Office say they don't know whether she's a victim of foul play or if she moved to an unknown location.
Her daughter, Judith Broughton, was arrested for stealing social security retirement insurance benefits from her father. Her father was found dead earlier this year at a storage unit in Kentucky, that Judith has been renting for more than 20 years.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

I'm confused about the locations here. Did the father/mother/daughter live in Texas but the father's remains were found in Kentucky? Or did the mother & daughter move to Texas from Kentucky? Or did the parents live in Texas but the daughter lived in Kentucky? Just can't quite put it together.

Maybe they need to find out if she has another storage building rented. If this daughter did this, I can only think of pure evil. Maybe Mary knew her daughter was doing horrible things and didn't have anybody else to help her. I wonder what any other family has to say or neighbors??

Another thing, if the dad's body was found in January, and Mary was last seen in February/March, what happened during that time?

Is daughter just shrugging her shoulders while they look for her mother? They need to make her go with the searchers every step of the way. Maybe if she got tired enough, she'd fess up.

Authorities in Texas say they've exhausted every possible avenue for locating Mary Elizabeth Broughton.

Police started their search for her after her husband, Luther Broughton, was found dead in a Lexington storage unit back in January. Their daughter, Judith Broughton, was indicted for stealing her dead father's social security benefits.

Since then, authorities in Texas have been searching for Mary Broughton. Despite their efforts, they have not received any credible leads but are still keeping the investigation open.

Judith Broughton, 49, pleaded guilty to fraud charges in a Pecos federal courtroom on Thursday after investigators say she claimed $245,226 worth of her dead fathers' social security benefits.

Officials say she committed the crime over a 21-year span, from 1990 - 2011. Broughton admitted that her father died in 1990, and she continued to make payments on a Kentucky storage unit in his name. That's where investigators discovered his mummified body, in January of this year, according to authorities.

Prior to Broughton's arrest she was living with her mother, Mary Elizabeth Broughton, whose been missing since her daughter's arrest.
