Thor Nis Christiansen was a California serial killer and necrophile who was convicted of killing 3 white female hitchhikers in Isla Vista, Calif. and one African-American woman in Los Angeles, all with a .22 caliber shot to the head and sexually violated after death. His fifth victim survived the gunshot wound to the head, and was able to escape. She recognized him in a bar three months after the attack, and summoned police, who quickly figured out that Christiansen was responsible for the Isla Vista murders.

On July 27, 1979, Christiansen, then 21, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in Santa Barbara, and in June 1980 he pleaded guilty.

On March 30, 1981, Christiansen was stabbed to death in Folsom State Prison, receiving seventeen stab wounds. His killer was never identified.

In the youtube video below: Serial Killer - Thor Christiansen: The Hitchiker Slayer, it was asked if Christiansen could have killed more victims - (39:00 mark) - the answer from the LE being interviewed said 'YES' - Christiansen moved to Oregon and there had been murder cases there which fitted his timeline and the way he killed. Police could never get out of him where in Oregon he was during those 22 months.
Christiansen also mentioned to a friend he went/wanted to be a long haul truck driver - which he may have done when he moved to Oregon.

I was wondering if you know of any Cold Cases which would fit Christiansen's timeline: between 18th January 1977 - 7th July 1979 (arrest date).
I also wonder about victims that may not have been found, or were found after this date and were UID's in California or Oregon.

Known:
He picked up Hitch Hikers and had been frequenting known street sex work area looking for girls.
He shot girls in the head
He sexually assaulted them after their death
He would dump them from the car along the roiadside - later dumping his last victim in a dam in a secluded area.
He used a .22 caliber pistol he had stolen for 3 of the murders.

Irin Meyer was last seen during the day on 07/20/1979 either at her campsite in Harris Beach State Park or at McKay's Market in Brookings. Her tent containing belongings and her cat were located in the park by park staff when she failed to check out of the park. Her vehicle was found abandoned in the parking lot of Whaleshead Beach State Park about 5 miles north of Brookings on 07/29/2012. Investigation failed to produce any significant leads that would explain what happened to Irin.

In 1980, Danish-American serial killer Thor Nis Christiansen was sentenced to life in prison for killing 4 women (three of which had a similar appearance) between November 20, 1976, and April 18, 1979.

Christiansen had been captured after his fifth intended victim, Lydia Preston, escaped with a bullet in her head. On July 11, 1979, Preston accidentally met Christiansen in the Bottom Line Bar in Hollywood and reported him to police, who promptly arrested him. After the arrest, Santa Barbara County investigators realized they had investigated Christiansen as a suspect in 1977.

On March 30, 1981, Christiansen was found dead in the exercise yard at Folsom State Prison with a single stab wound in his chest. To this day, his killer is still unidentified, although psychiatrists had warned that Christiansen would be in danger in prison, due to the sexual nature of his murders, and his youthful, blond appearance.
