Adolf Hitler's housemaid has spoken about working for him and Eva Braun during WW2 at his Berchtesgaden retreat in the Bavarian Alps.

Elisabeth Kalhammer knitted socks with Braun but wasn't ever permitted to utter a word to Hitler. He nibbled walnuss and apful kuchen (cake) throughout the night, every night, and rarely woke before 2pm. How the heck any Germans accepted that I don't know, as they certainly wouldn't now (at least the ones I know).

(In German)

This Australian article gives a short summary of the German article above - and also points out that the rising at 2pm habit caught Hitler hopping when the D-Day Landings were launched; nobody dared wake him up to tell him.
