    UT - Candice Chappuis, 27, Alpine, 14 May 2014

    Candice Chappuis

Missing Alpine woman calls mom to say she was kidnapped -

Erring on the side of caution, police are now treating an Alpine woman’s disappearance as a kidnapping. Candice Chappuis, 27, was last seen in Alpine on Wednesday; the police believed that she had left her home voluntarily. When she did not return Thursday, her family grew concerned and asked the police to find her. Then Saturday afternoon, Chauppuis’ mother reported to the police that Chauppuis had called her, saying that she had been kidnapped and that her car had been stolen, according to the release. "The line disconnected before any additional information could be gathered," the release adds.

Her FB reports she's been found safe. Looks like a sweet lady with a big family.

So many questions! Are there any cameras in the area that could have caught her vehicle going by? If police thought she left on her own, where was she supposed to be going?

I just saw a post on an FB page where someone else is questioning the same thing.

A few hours later, Lone Peak police confirmed she was safe at her father’s home in Salt Lake City. Investigators plan to talk to her to find out what happened.

Well, she's 27, and is now known to be safe.

Maybe everyone should look away. It's not like she's 14. She had the right to go missing, she's fully an adult, and now she's known to be ok.

I'm not quite sure why "investigators" need to know what happened.

Because apparently she said she had been kidnapped and her car was stolen?

If any of those things happened it's a crime even if she was found safe later. If not, she still needs a talking-to as false reports tie up police resources that could be used somewhere else more usefully, or if she did not say so they might want to consider charging the mother for making a false report.

Because her "family" is all over the news, clamiing that she was "beaten half to death" and that the "purpetrator" [sic] was driving her car "all over town".

She has a past criminal history (click here) and was arrested in March for retail theft.

I think it's more than fair that the police get the real story here.

If we hear nothing else about this is it safe to assume it was a mental health issue?
