Oscar Pistorius: South Africa gears up for its 'trial of the century'

(CNN) -- He was one of South Africa's favorite sons, an amputee track star who defied all the odds and sprinted into the hearts of millions during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She was a staggering beauty with the brains to match, a law graduate and model whose star was on the rise.

So many theories, ideas and versions.

I do not believe OP's version at ALL ! ( Intruder BS !)

This is how I personally see it. (IMOO)

    OP was shouting to/at Reeva.
Running down the passage and then in the same room as her (bathroom) ...
She would have heard him and shouted back (it's me...its me !) (This being before he fired any 'deafening' shots...)
She knew he was there and he knew she was there.
That to me is murder !

I have no idea why... but he did it. He killed her !

I don't think proceedings are on today. I believe they are adjourned until Tuesday. (?)

This might be interesting. I can't read it as I've reached my 'ten free articles per month limit' so let me know if there's anything earth shattering won't you.

I think we all have theories as to why but, in reality, it's unlikely we'll ever really know.

I can honestly say the longer I follow these cases, the less I understand. You'd think taking a human life would matter - that doing so would only happen in extremes, that the taking of a life would haunt the murderer until they need to clear their conscience...

But the reality is just so different.

Like you, I think he deliberately murdered Reeva, likely for stupid and selfish reasons (like keeping her quiet), even though it seems so unconscionable that some people believe he couldn't have committed murder - but people are murdered many times over every day, all across the world, and very, very rarely is it ever for a reason that makes sense to us.

Guten Morgen all over the world! It is 08:20 in my country. Breakfast is done and now ...

    ... IMO

If OP had done anything to slow down Reeva's saving intentionally, then he has shot her before deliberately too. Reason: RS to not being able in testifying about that evening/night re threat/beating/poss. one shot.
The devilish only just begins with the shots and it deserved be punished too.
    (I'm naive, maybe. )

I don't understand at all Nel and his lack of interest in things happened after the shots.

Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if the Tuesday decision is to commit him as an inpatient for psychiatric assessment and the wait for a bed is 1-2 years.

When he finally is done with the assessment, could there possibly be a new judge and prosecutor if the current ones have moved on to new cases and would the case just continue on from where it left off?

Interesting in that Henke Pistorius obviously shoots from the hip.

"When you are a sportsman, you act even more on instinct," he said. "It's instinct - things happen and that's what you do."
"When you wake up in the middle of the night - and crime is so endemic in South Africa - what do you do if somebody is in the house? Do you think it's one of your family? Of course you don't," he said. The family were keen hunters, he said, and his son had grown up with guns.
Edit: The article also mentions OP gave Reeva mouth to mouth. Is that true?

Well, much of it is old news - the article is dated February 2013, but a machine gun under a window is mentioned (I can only assume that was mistaken) in addition to the 9mm. Henke Pistorius said he believed Oscar shot on instinct, as a sportsman. I'd think being a sportsman would require traits at odds with such 'instinct'. The Pistorius family is fully behind him and Oscar was crying in court.

You're not missing much. (I hate that about the telegraph too but fyi - the 10 article limit doesn't apply to mobiles/cells, at least it never has for me, I'm on it daily - just in case that helps someone.)
