IL - Dan Gaines, 59, Bloomington, 12 May 2014
Dan Gaines, 59, hasn't been seen since going for a bike ride Monday afternoon west of the city. McLean County Lieutenant John Sandage said police are trying to narrow the search area.
"We're still following up on possible sightings, reports we've received the day that Mr. Gaines went missing," said Sandage. "So we're following up, trying to confirm whether they're legitimate sightings or not."
Officials from several different departments assisted with the search last week. Tuesday was the most extensive search as the McLean County Emergency Management Agency, and members of the Illinois Search and Rescue Council assisted local departments, but did not find Gaines or his bicycle.
"He was known to ride 40 or 50 miles at a time on his bike, so that makes it complicated because the search area is now so wide," Emery said.
The public is asked to contact law enforcement with any new leads or clues. Gaines is described as white, 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a gray T-shirt and shorts and was believed to be riding a silver Mongoose bicycle.

McLean county authorities may have found a clue in the search for a missing Bloomington bicyclist. Fifty-nine year old Daniel Gaines has been missing since lunch time on May 12.
The next day, authorities found a letter inside his home on the Bloomington’s west side. Sheriff's department officials say they're still determining the nature of that letter.

Does that mean that they are trying to authenticate a suicide note? Or does it mean that the content of the letter doesn't make sense?

The body of a Bloomington man last seen riding his bicycle more than two weeks ago was found Friday inside a storage locker, according to the McLean County Coroner's Office.
Coroner Beth Kimmerling said sheriff's deputies were called about 9 a.m. to Space Place Storage on McCue Drive. They were met by family members of Dan Gaines, who had been missing since May 12, and managers of the business.
When the unit, rented by the Gaines family, was opened, Dan Gaines' body was found inside with no obvious signs of life, said Kimmerling, whose office was notified at that time.

How sad for him and his family. Praying for them all.
05-31-2014, 03:45 PM #6An autopsy did not immediately reveal the cause, but Dan Gaines' death did not involve violence or a third party, said McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling.Further studies, specifically toxicology and electrolyte analyses, may take two to four weeks before Kimmerling can determine the cause of death.
