I don't understand the articles that only say someone is missing, give an age, and NO other descriptions, a name, or even a photo.

Are people supposed to stop every 4 year old boy and ask if he's missing? Heck, how many would even say they were? Little ones think THEY know where they are - it's typically someone else who is "missing" in their minds.

And when they do it with older kids or teens, when more tend to be voluntarily missing it's even harder.

So frustrating! Surely they have SOME additional info on this poor little guy!

    I hope he's safe somewhere.

A 4 year old missing two days and with zero other information is worrying.

As an Alaskan, what we have to live with on a daily basis in Alaska is wildlife and very large and wild wilderness. Home sweet home. I certainly hope no harm has come to that little boy.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Man, temps from the low 30's to the mid-40's. Hope the little guy is in warm clothes.

And it's right on the river

Worried about the little guy. Surely everyone in the village knows - it's not that many people. Seems unlikely he's with someone given that?

Officials search for missing 4-year-old boy in Western Alaska

    [snip]

The Kotlik Police Department notified troopers in nearby village of Emmonak shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday that they’d been looking for the child, according to a Wednesday trooper dispatch.

Police and residents of Kotlik, population 644, reportedly had been searching for the child since Monday after his parents reported him missing.

Search Crews Look for Missing Child in Kotlik

    [snip]

“We’ve brought in troopers from Emmonak, Bethel, Anchorage, and St. Marys to help. We’re using air assets to see if we can see anything from the air.

Search and rescue dogs have been brought in–three from Anchorage–to see if we can potentially find an area this child might be in,” said Peters.

Peters says there have been no leads on where the boy may have gone.

“They are now attempting to look in the slough and river, dragging it to see if the child ended up in the water somewhere,” said Peters.

If your relative is missing, do you have the option of not disclosing to the media what their name is? It seems like no name missing persons cases are more common lately.

Part of me wonders if LE isn't trying to protect the family from scrutiny since their 4 year old was out playing with a friend in 40 degree weather, unsupervised, and went missing. JMO.

Still no name, picture, anything? I mean, maybe they think he's in the river or something, so it's not important to outsiders to know, but if he's been kidnapped, wouldn't they want everyone to know who he is? Just seems weird.

Treading carefully here but I must. Do you know if it's common for a 4 year old to play outside unsupervised in a village community such as this one?

I mean, it shocked me to read that "He never returned home that evening"

Missing Boy Reportedly Fell into Kotlik Slough
by BEN MATHESON on MAY 22, 2014

The search for a four-year-old boy in Kotlik who has been missing since Monday night is now a recovery effort. Troopers have identified the boy as Terrell Hunt.
Evan Akaran is a member of Kotlik Search and Rescue and says the boy had been playing with friends by the water near his house when he evidently slipped.

“[he] tried to rescue him and grab his jacket and he unfortunately couldn’t. He floated outf 20, 30, 40 feet from the bank,” said Akaran.

Akaran says the information is still sparse, but they believe he went under the water at that point.

    Poor little guy

Glad he has a name now.

But why in the world were they using dogs, air support, etc. if they knew from the get go he was probably in the water?

Heck, why hadn't they SAID that from the beginning?

If he was "playing with friends" and those friends are the only witnesses and are also in the same age range, it easily could have taken several days to understand what they had to say about the incident. At first, if all the adults/authorities know is that he is missing, they would start a full ground, air, water search until the other young kids are able to communicate what they know.
