The death of a 5-year-old at a Forsyth home this week has been ruled a homicide.

That's according to GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang.
She said an autopsy found that Heaven Woods died from a blunt-force trauma to the abdomen.

The child also had "multiple other injuries, new and old," the release says.
Lang also said that the girl's mother, Amanda Hendrickson, had a "history" with the state Division of Family and Children Services in Floyd County. Lang would not describe that history, saying it was part of their investigation.

A Forsyth police report says EMTs on the scene advised police that "the child had visible signs of possible abuse" but does not describe them.
It says Amanda Hendrickson told police that her child had been saying with a friend in Rome and was sick when she came home Monday night.

Another heartbreaking story of a beautiful little girl -- no words can convey how this hurts all of us.

I'm with gramma, there is no punishment harsh enough.

Prosecutors announced earlier this summer they are seeking capital punishment against Hendrickson and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Roderick Buckner.

Buckner pleaded guilty to murder at a June 17 hearing, accepting a plea agreement. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors and Hendrickson’s state-appointed defense team are set to return to court Dec. 21 to argue pretrial motions. At the earliest, her trial could be held in 2016.

June 2015:

A man who lived with a 5-year-old girl and her mother in Forsyth admitted Wednesday that he struck her abdomen with his knee and elbow, causing injuries that led to her death.

Moments after prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty against Roderick Buckner, 35, and the girl’s mother, 33-year-old Amanda Hendrickson, Buckner pleaded guilty to murder.

The plea was part of an agreement with prosecutors. In exchange for his guilty plea and testimony in Hendrickson’s case, Buckner was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

June 2015:

A Forsyth man got a life sentence without possible parole after pleading guilty to murder in last year's death of a 5-year-old girl.

District Attorney Richard Milam said Roderick Buckner made his plea during one-hour in the Heaven Woods murder case.

"You will serve all the days of your life in the custody of the state of Georgia's correctional facility," Milam said to Buckner.

December 2015:

Prosecutors announced Monday that they are no longer seeking the death penalty against a Forsyth woman accused in her 5-year-old daughter's 2014 beating death.

Amanda Hendrickson, 34, now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole in the death of Heaven Woods...

The case tentatively is set for trial in September 2016.

[One] reason for dropping the death penalty involves the arrest of a former GBI agent who worked on the case, prosecutor Mark Daniel said during pre-trial motion hearings held Monday in Monroe County Superior Court.

The former GBI agent, Charles Woodall, was arrested Nov. 9 and is accused of molesting three young boys. His case is pending in Bibb County Superior Court.
