Our Compliments To Law Enforcement For A Same Day Arrest.

The killer said he believed the cab driver was “taking the long way and ripping him off.” Mr. Darbenzio picked Mr. Richardson up on Washburn Street and Mr. Richardson told detectives he asked to be let out near Valley View Terrace. It was there Mr. Richardson shot Mr. Darbenzio and stole $500 from his pockets before walking away.

He also is in a gang and claims he is a suspect in a triple murder in New Jersey but had been released from jail.

Wow. The perp is 16? It must be scary to be a cab driver. Never knowing who you are picking up and what might happen.

How sad this is.

With a trial start date scheduled for May 4, the teen declined to take an offer from the district attorney’s office Wednesday to plead guilty at a final pre-trial conference.

To avoid the lengthy trial process, District Attorney Andrew Jarbola had said Mr. Richardson must plead guilty to first-degree murder, which comes with a sentence of 35 years to life, in return for the dropping of his other charges...

Judge Corbett had ordered the teen’s mother be present at the conference Wednesday to support her son. Because she did not appear, the judge said prosecutors can start the process of holding her in contempt of court.

From August:

On Tuesday, Aazis Richardson, 17, admitted killing cabbie Vincent Darbenzio in Scranton and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before Lackawanna County Judge Patricia Corbett.

“It was a brutal, senseless killing,” First Assistant District Attorney Gene Talerico said after the hearing. “Plain and simple.”

From October:

http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/45...lity-of-release-for-cabbie-murderer-1.1953389

Vincent Darbenzio’s family and friends packed the courtroom Monday. But no one showed up for the 17-year-old being sentenced for killing him.

“It’s a tale of two entirely different families,” Lackawanna County Judge Patricia Corbett noted before sentencing Aazis Richardson to 45 years to life in prison for shooting Mr. Darbenzio in May 2014.

Judge Corbett left the door open to a possible release in part because of Mr. Richardson’s horrific upbringing in a New Jersey housing “war zone,” she said. She also granted some leniency because, for the first time, the killer showed remorse Monday for killing cab driver Mr. Darbenzio, 47, in Scranton due to a dispute over the cost of $7.42 fare.
