GA - Officer Kevin Jordan, 43, fatally shot, Griffin, 31 May 2014

Kevin Jordan, 43-year-old Griffin police officer and father of seven was shot and killed 5/31/14 while working an off-duty security job in full uniform.

Two men & a woman were creating a disturbance & asked to leave. A fight broke out after Jordan got them outside and tried to handcuff the woman. One of the men shot the officer 3 times in in the back, penetrating his bullet-proof vest.

The officer's brother, who had come to the Waffle House to meet with his brother, was in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted. He is a civilian but, has a permit to carry to a gun, and shot the alleged gunman who is being treated in an ATL hospital. The other 2 are in custody.

We have several posters who live in this area who will probably have more information.

How horrible for Officer Jordan's brother. "A good guy with a gun is the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun."

Anybody want to make bets about the bad guy in this story having a carry permit?

Bowman and Mixon are charged with murder. Bowman for reportedly pulling the trigger and Mixon since police say her obstruction lead to Jordan's death. Taylor is charged with disorderly conduct.

"Jordan’s brother, who was visiting the officer at the time of the incident, returned fire in defense of his brother, striking Bowman. A civilian witness kicked Bowman’s weapon away and used the officer’s radio to call out, “Officer down.”

Candlelight vigil tonight - B shift from the Griffin Police Dept. and Officer Jordan's family will be there.

Saturday 10 am to 4 pm at the Griffin Wal-Mart, the Griffin Police Department, and Southern States PBA are hosting a fundraiser. Officers will be at the door collecting funds to donate to Officer Jordan's family.

Saturday evening - Officer Jordan's son will graduate from Griffin High School. A large group of LE plan to attend to support the son. All agencies are encouraged to participate. Officers must be in full uniform.

Sunday - visitation at Oak Hill Baptist Church from 4PM to 8PM.

Monday - funeral at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Baptist Church.
The procession will then depart the church and travel to Williamson Road. From there, it will turn left and continue to the Georgia 7 bypass. It will go north to Highway 16 and proceed east to Hill Street, where it will continue south to Airport Road. From Airport Road, the procession will turn right on Everee Inn Road, concluding at Westwood Gardens, which will be Officer Jordanís final resting place.
Officer Jordan will be honored by Griffin Fire-Rescue, which will fly a flag draped over his procession. After Officer Jordan passes underneath the flag, he will be transferred from the hearse to a horse-drawn caisson.
Upon arriving at the cemetery, a closing prayer will be offered. It will be followed by a flag ceremony, a Masonic ceremony, a 21-gun salute, the playing of Taps and a missing man formation flyover.
The community is encouraged to show respect for Officer Jordanís service along the procession route.

A local church has already raised over $10,000 for Officer Jordan's family through an online account. There are flags at half staff all over town in his honor, signs on local businesses recognizing his service and signs with his badge number in the windows of school buses. This town has been hurt deeply by his murder.

Darlene Buhlinger, Bowman’s aunt, did speak to Channel 2. She said she was in “disbelief” about what happened. She told the television station that her nephew had a permit to carry a gun but never thought he was capable of shooting anyone.

“That’s somebody’s son, daddy,” she said. “I mean I don’t even know what to feel. I’m so sorry for that family.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now probing the shooting. The Griffin Police Department has asked the public to pray for Officer Kevin Jordan’s family, who will have to make funeral arrangements just as they were preparing to celebrate the upcoming high school graduation of one of his seven children.

This case was in my city/county. numerous people have come together to help the family. Numerous community businesses shut down during his funeral and showed respect to our fallen. He was a great cop and friend to many. He is truly missed in the community.
Life is just too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don't. Believe that everything happens for a reason, If you get a chance:TAKE IT! If it changes your life: LET IT! Nobody said that it would be easy they just said that it would be worth it. The people you need in your life are the ones who have proved they need you in theirs. Love me or hate me, It won't make me of break me.

The Spalding County District Attorney said Friday he is seeking the death penalty against the man accused of killing a Griffin police officer outside a Waffle House.

DA Scott Ballardís announcement and filing in Spalding County Superior Court came two days after a grand jury indicted Michael Dwayne Bowman, 30, on murder charges in the death of Officer Kevin Jordan.

A Georgia police officer's body armor failed to stop bullets from piercing his back, killing him as he worked an off-duty security job, his widow alleges in a federal lawsuit.

Tammy Jordan filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court, saying a vest from Michigan-based Armor Express failed to save the life of her husband, former Griffin Police Officer Kevin Jordan. Jordan was shot five times while intervening in a fight at a Waffle House in Griffin, Georgia, in 2014, according to the lawsuit.
