22 Division
416-808-7474

TPS Sex Crimes and 22 Division have been investigating a series of Sexual Assaults and Break-and-Enters since June 2012.

It is reported that:

- a man wearing a head covering has been entering homes through unlocked doors and windows while residents are asleep

- women have been sexually assaulted

- these offences have taken place during summer months, mainly between June and September

- the offender appears to target residences with unlocked doors or windows and is focused on South Etobicoke

Police would like to remind the public of the importance of securing their residence at all times.

Police are also requesting the assistance of the public in being aware of any suspicious people in their neighbourhood, and being mindful of things being moved on their property. Any such incidents should immediately be reported to police at 416-808-2222."

"Investigators believe the same suspect is responsible for as many as 20 break-and-enters and eight sexual assaults in the same area in the last two years.

The offences have occurred from June to September. The offender appears to target residences that have unlocked doors or windows.

“Since we can’t predict where he will hit next, we are urging residents to take precautions that will assist them with their personal safety,” said Sex Crimes Detective Steven McIlwain"

NEW!

"Residents of south Etobicoke are being advised to take precautions after reports of break-ins and a sexual assault emerged this past weekend.

Toronto police recently reported a pair incidents that occurred right after one another in the Royal York Road and Evans Avenue area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In one incident, a man entered a home through a window and sexually assaulted a 63-year-old woman. He then fled the scene. Police say the suspect in this incident wore a baseball hat, a bandana over the lower part of his face and possibly had a dark, long-sleeved jacket or shirt.

In a second incident that occurred 90 minutes later, a man went into a home through its back door. He was confronted by a 30-year-old woman and fled the residence. The suspect in this case wore a long-sleeved black shirt.

Det. Steve McIlwain told CBC News today that the incident involving a sexual assault fits the pattern of a male that police believe has targeted homes in the area for some time.

"There's a potential that it’s linked to other sexual assaults and break-and-enters that have occurred in the south Etobicoke area, southeast Etobicoke area, over the past three years," McIlwain said.

In 2012 and 2013, similar incidents have occurred in the area from June through September".

OK, so the attacks take place between June and September = high school student, high school teacher (??????).

I'm having a sneaking suspicion that this is the work of another "young offender". Ages for high school students in Ontario is 14 - 17. How depressing is this? If they catch him, he'll never be publicly named........again!

You got it!! REMEMBER - in Ontario we vote tomorrow. Perhaps we should seek out candidates who actually want to change the Young Offenders Act.

:twocents:

Two more break ins, very possibly related to previous attacks in neighbourhood1

"Toronto police fear a serial sex offender may be back targeting a south Etobicoke neighbourhood after a pair of recent break-ins in the area.

Police now believe the man responsible for two recent break-ins in the Royal York Road and Queensway area is the same man that has been targeting this area over the past three summers."

Again?!
Lengthy article detailing all the attacks.

Woman wakes up to stranger in bedroom

By Chris Doucette

Updated: Friday, July 11, 2014 08:19 PM EDT

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/07/11/woman-wakes-up-to-stranger-in-bedroom

"TORONTO - A predator believed to have terrorized a south Etobicoke neighbourhood since 2012 — breaking into as many as 20 homes in the middle of the night and often sexually assaulting women as they slept — may have struck again Friday.

An elderly woman was asleep in a bedroom on the main floor of a house on Brentwood Rd. N., near Bloor St. W. and Royal York Rd., when she was awakened by a noise and looked up to see an intruder standing over her, Toronto Police said.

“The victim was alarmed and she screamed,” Det.-Sgt. Madelaine Tretter, of 22 Division, said.

The senior, who wasn’t home alone, initially thought one of her family members was up and around, Tretter said.

But once the woman’s vision adjusted she saw the stranger in her room.

The man ran off out the front door and may have used a bicycle to make his getaway, Tretter said. A bike was later recovered but it’s not yet known if it’s the same one.

Cops searched the area, with help from the K9 Unit, but were unable to find the man"

"It appears the suspect got in through the front door, but police said there was no sign of forced entry, so it’s not yet known if it was left unlocked.

The incident occurred in the same area where a man broke into homes over the past couple of summers.

It’s believed one man is responsible for over 20 break-and-enters and eight sexual assaults. He seems to strike between June and September, entering homes in the early hours of the morning.

Police said they’re still trying to determine if this morning’s incident is the work of this same suspect.

The woman wasn’t injured in the incident.

Police describe the suspect at black and six feet tall with a stocky build.

Investigators said that even if this is the same suspect as previous incidents, the descriptions have varied."

"2 more overnight break-ins in Etobicoke
Resident confronts prowler in home near Browns Line and Horner Avenue

Last Updated: Jul 12, 2014 3:53 PM ET"

"Police are investigating two more overnight break-ins in Etobicoke, both in the area of Browns Line and Horner Avenue.

Police say at about 2 a.m. area resident Mave McCarthy woke upon hearing a noise and discovered an intruder in her home. The suspect — whose face was covered, and is described only as a male about six feet tall — was standing at the foot of her bed. She screamed and her husband, who had been sleeping downstairs, ran to her aid.

The suspect fled out the back door, jumping two fences as he ran off, said McCarthy.

A police pursuit, including a helicopter and canine unit, followed but the suspect got away".

Lengthy and interesting article from July 2014..

"Based on more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and 15 years of heading the OPP’s criminal profiling department, Mr. Van Allen provided The Globe with his opinion on what kind of person Toronto police could be dealing with.

Mr. Van Allen said the fact that the suspect keeps coming back to the same spots and protects his identity with a mask indicates he likely lives in or near the area.

“He’s really close in that neighbourhood, we’re talking a stones throw away, let’s say a good chip shot … If you put all the occurrence locations on a pin map, he would be probably be right in the middle of it,” Mr. Van Allen said.

The neighbourhoods that the prowler’s been active in since 2012 covers about a 5-kilometre by 5-kilometre area that spans Lake Shore Boulevard West W. to Bloor Street West, Park Lawn Road to Brown’s Line, often hitting two or three homes in close proximity to each other on the same night.

Still, Mr. Van Allen believes, the perpetrator is not somebody a lot of neighbours are going to know personally: He’s shy, lacking in social skills, and single – either living with a relative or by himself in a rented room.

“You’re looking for a real nondescript kind of guy,” he said.

Despite his withdrawn nature during the day, the prowler is likely out testing doorknobs almost every night, likely peeping through windows and selecting his victims in advance, largely because he doesn’t know how to go about initiating a mutually beneficial relationship with an age-appropriate female.

“These guys fantasize about being in a relationship with a woman. He wants to be close to women and this is the only way that he can do it,” Mr. Van Allen said.

"Sexual assaults will often occur under the influence of drugs. That is not uncommon at all," Mr. Yeager said.

"With a small number of offenders you might have a deviant" sexual fetish, he added.

They almost always have a criminal record that stretches beyond sexual assaults, Mr. Yeager said. "It's much more common to see a pattern of other delinquencies than to see just strictly sexual assaults."

Mr. Yeager said it is important for the public to pay attention to their community.

"The way these guys are caught, most often, is not necessarily with traditional detective work. They're caught often through the aid of the public," Mr. Yeager said."

More assaults, this time in Mississauga!

http://www.680news.com/2014/09/03/p...ns-sex-assaults-indecent-acts-in-mississauga/

"Peel regional police are searching for a suspect in connection with a series of break-ins, performing indecent acts, and committing sexual assaults.

Police said five incidents occurred between July 23 and Sept. 2, in which the suspect allegedly tried or gained access into the residences.

The most recent case occurred at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday on Forestwood Drive in Mississauga, near Erindale Station Road and Dundas Street West.

Police said a woman was sleeping in her bedroom, located on the main floor, when she woke up and found a man had broken into her home. Police said the suspect was involved in an indecent act, before allegedly sexually assaulting her. He fled away on foot.

Investigators have released a description of the suspect. He’s described as a dark-skinned male, six-feet two-inches tall, and clean shaven. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark grey pants with a double-white stripe down either side and a scarf covering his face.

Police said the five incidents occurred after midnight, mostly occurring in southern Mississauga. Police believe the cases are connected based on the vicinity, actions and suspect descriptions"

Charged is Anieph Fitzroy Burton, 32

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...olice-arrest-serial-sexual-predator-1.2819454

"In many of the assaults, victims awoke to find a suspect inside in their house. On more than one occasion, police were close to arresting a suspect who evaded police by jumping backyard fences and fleeing into wooded areas.

Burton's wife Jehanneiry (Jen) Beaton is also facing six counts of breaking and entering and one count of break and enter with intent. Police believe she was involved in seven of the break-ins.

Police said Burton was known to them prior to this arrest.

At a news conference Friday, Insp. Joanna Beaven-Desjardins of the Toronto police sex-crimes unit said during many of the attacks, property was stolen and female residents were assaulted as they slept.

"Throughout this, residents have been woken up to somebody standing in their house," said Beaven-Desjardins. "In some occasions there were assaults taking place or sexual assaults taking place. When someone enters your home where you feel safe .. and you're awoken to a predator, I'd say this is one of the most heinous crimes."

"Some victims reported awaking to find a stranger in their bedroom. In some cases they reported seeing what looked like the red light from a camera.

Beaven-Desjardins said investigators are still going through cameras and laptops collected in the investigation for evidence the assaults were recorded
