    TX - Marquita Medrano, 24, Hemphill, 23 June 2014

Body of child found, search continues for missing woman

    Hemphill County, TX -
The search for a missing woman continues near the Canadian river. Search crews are still looking for 24 year old Marquita Medrano. She and seven year old Emily Purcell were horseback riding Monday afternoon when they went missing.Authorities began the search just after 6 Monday night when the Hemphill County Sheriff's Office was notified. Several departments, as well as volunteers searched throughout the day to find the two. The body of the 7 year old was located shortly after a helicopter pilot spotted a riderless horse Monday night.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

Oh, gosh, this is just heartbreaking

Here is Marquita's Facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/marquita.wilson.56

You can see on family members' pages that the child was her niece. (For informational purposes only, not sleuthing). She also appears to have two daughters of her own

Oh gosh... Were they riding the same horse or is there another horse in the mix here? Is Marquita an experienced rider?

I wonder if the horse spooked, threw the little one and took off with Marquita. She could have fallen off at any point. :-(

Canadian River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It forms a deep canyon south of Springer, New Mexico. At its first dam at Conchas Lake, the river turns eastward. It is also dammed at Logan, New Mexico, where it forms Ute Lake. From there it crosses the Texas Panhandle, dammed at Sanford, Texas, where it forms Lake Meredith. The canyon the river carves through eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle is the northern border of the Llano Estacado, separating it from the rest of the Great Plains.
Oh, no. Considering the 4 inches of rain on Sunday, it seems logical that the dams would have had to let some water out. I've lived near a dam and this can create a siginificant rise in water levels in a very short period of time, without warning. Doubly concerning if this area is a canyon...

Great question and now that I check the articles, they all seem to imply it was "a horse."

Based on her employer, her last status, and photos of close family members, it would seem to me that there is riding experience here. But that's only a guess.

A spooked horse is certainly a reasonable possibility IMO.

Teams are still searching for a woman who went missing near the Canadian River on Monday...

Members of the Randall County Sheriff’s Posse, volunteers on horseback, joined volunteers from Pampa to assist with the search Wednesday, said Dawn Dial, Hemphill County Sheriff’s Department administrative assistant.

Dial said there were also local swimmers not affiliated with the department who helped Tuesday and Wednesday. A scaled-back search continued overnight, with a full search to resume today.
