On June 26, 2009, Donna Mosley discovered the body of her brother, Robert Allen Michalec, 47, in Hyco Lake, near his home on Lakeshore Road in Leasburg.

Michalec had last been seen the day before, fishing with two men he knew from his job as a superintendent at Trout and Riggs, a construction company...

According to the medical examiner's report, Michalec's death was the result of blunt force trauma. The Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff's Office has ruled out the possibility of the trauma being caused by an accident.

Donna said the men told investigators they dropped off Bob at the dock around 9:30 p.m. “They said they shined a light on him and watched him walk up the dock.” When he didn’t show up for work that day, the family filed a missing person’s report...

“Whoever did this caught him by surprise, knew exactly where he was,” she said. “The area is secluded, in a cove. There are not many houses. You wouldn’t go down there unless you were going there for a reason”...

Sheriff Michael Welch and Capt. Frank Rose said it is still an open investigation. “We have an investigator assigned to the case who works on it every week,” Welch said. “We reached out to the [North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations] for help with interviews, and they’re still working with us.”

Gosh, doesn't this make you want to know more about the two other guys. Obviously, he was dead before he ended up in the lake. I wonder if Bob's body was near the edge of the lake or near the dock. The articles, one of them, stated his hat and cooler were also in the lake. Sheesh. If the dock was only yards from his home and the men shined a light, and his home was secluded, then they would have seen a car nearby I'd think. I don't think anyone would just be hanging around in the midst of nowhere waiting to ambush him. Even if he made it to his house and someone was there, why would the take his cooler and throw it in the lake too? This really doesn't look good for those other two guys, but it doesn't seem like there's many questions headed their way??

I wasn't sure if he were just at the edge or not until I found this article which isn't as detailed but does state he was found floating in the lake.

Also "The last time anyone saw him alive was the night before when he said he was going fishing."

Am I right in assuming the fishing buddies dropped him off at the dock via boat at 9:30 and he then walked from the dock towards his home? I wonder what time he said he was going fishing.
