Skeletal remains were found by an inmate work crew June 23, 2014. Little info is currently available, but according to
http://www.carsonnow.org/story/06/2...gate-skeletal-remains-found-near-spooner-lake
the Washoe County ME will perform an autopsy.

I have checked NAMUS and a profile has not yet been created for the case.

The skeleton was found in Kings Canyon near Spooner Lake in Douglas County, to the west of Carson City. This is near the Tahoe Rim Trail and Kings Canyon Road. Behold: a map

I found a few older missing adult cases from the area. I searched for the Carson City, Tahoe, and Douglas County areas.

Christine Nelson, missing from Oregon but had traveled through the area with her husband the day before she went missing to pick up some cars. Husband's account of her disappearance seem suspicious.

A comment to that news article mentions a 20-year-old case of a cab driver's missing wife. Not sure whether that's one of the cases in this list or not -- I didn't recognize it from the description.

Thanks car buff for finding the story with the estimated TOD of 6-12 months ago. I was just coming along to share this, but your new info seems to discount the theory. I saw this news story and immediately thought "Hmm I wonder if the renewed interest has anything to do with the skeleton they just found by Spooner Lake?"

Probably not though, since this man went missing 15 years ago.

Hm, that's a good thought. It doesn't seem likely at the moment for these remains but it's worth keeping an eye on him. Sometimes preliminary observations prrove to be inaccurate.

Ashley lewin was rumored to be heading to Nevada, not sure where though

Las Vegas, it says, so from the LA area she wouldn't have to go this far north. But the guy who was acting suspicious was in northern CA, but it doesn't say where in northern CA.

Yeah, and I've heard "northern California" used to describe places as far south as Monterey/Carmel.

I've peeked around the local news sources, nothing new to be seen. No NAMUS profile yet, either.

There is a bit of news on the disappearance of Ruth Anne Scudder, 28, of South Lake Tahoe. She has a mild mental disability and a history of disappearing. She was last seen about a month ago.

Susan Jacobson is missing from Roseville, California, since May 2013.
Susan has lived in Nevada previously and California.

ETA:
Here is Susan's NamUs:

Here is a thread for Susan on WS:
CA CA - Susan Jacobson, 59, Sun City/Roseville, 2 May 2013 - #2 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Right, Susan Jacobson had a hip replacement, and even if the remains are only partial, Susan's DNA has been submitted/completed per NamUs, so if this UID is Susan, then they could match up the DNA, perhaps. IMOO.

In this particular article it mentions that the "body is reportedly mostly bones".

In this particular article it mentions "no identification was found."
http://www.nevadaappeal.com/news/11958934-113/bones-pierini-area-county

In the Susan Jacobson missing person case, Susan's ID was found near the Raley's parking lot in Roseville, California.
So, if this is Susan, it makes sense that no identification was found with the skeletal remains.

I am wondering about the article that mentions "mostly bones". Does that mean there could be other items there, also? Say a hip replacement with ID number?
IMOO.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has made a tentative identification on the remains that were discovered near the top of Spooner Summit. The cause of death is still pending the autopsy results.

Investigators are currently waiting for DNA results to return to make positive identification. These results are expected within 12 to 16 weeks. The investigation as to the manner of death is still ongoing.

Guess not:

DNA
Guidelines for Collection of DNA
Status: Samples submitted - Tests not complete

There's one ruleout: Lee Ochs of California.

Right, I saw that, but I also know that NamUs doesn't always update in an exact timely manner.
I have seen cases where the people were found, but it listed them as still missing on NamUs.
IMOO.
