Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are asking the public, especially those who lived in the Parramore area in the 1970s, to jog their memory and help them bring closure to the families.

Nancy Grace Daniel disappeared when she was 14 years old. "Nancy didn't have any enemies," said the victim's brother, Willie Daniel...

Now, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Orlando Police Department and Crimeline are teaming up to go back in time and figure out what happened to these two girls. "We're hoping to reach the long time or should I say older members of our community," said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.

Orange County detectives need your help in the case of two African-American girls whose remains were found near Lake Mann in 1977. Left: Nancy Grace Daniel, 14, last seen Sept. 6, 1976, was identified in May 2014. Right: A composite sketch of the second victim, who remains unidentified.

The still unidentified female corresponds to DoeNet 727UFFL and NamUs UP 1328

Nancy Grace Daniel corresponds to DoeNet 728UFFL and NamUs UP1327 (which is now closed)

When Nancy G Daniel's MP case appeared recently in NamUs, I immediately saw that she was a pretty good possible for 728UFFL. But I saw that the corresponding NamUs UP case 1327 had already been restricted from public view. So I concluded that they had already matched her to this case, even though the MP casefile was still open.

I don't get it. How does a 14-year-old girl disappear, then human remains fitting her description/timeline are found in the same city literally just 2.2 miles (walking distance!) away from where she disappeared ... and LE doesn't make the connection for 37 YEARS??

I'm sorry, I'm usually pretty sympathetic towards LE and I understand things fall through the cracks, but there's no explanation for this one besides sheer laziness and incompetence. This should have been solved 37 years ago. I feel so bad for Nancy's family.

I see the one who is still UID is listed on Doe as being 11-20 years old. That's quite a big difference. She's tall and had Misses size clothing. Either this was a girl who went thru puberty quite young or the low age estimate is way off. I would think 15-20 would be more likely based on her size.

NamUs lists her as being 17 - 20 years old.

There aren't a lot of black women listed as missing in that time frame. One of them is Debra Stewart:

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/stewart_debra.html
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/mpch/mpdetails.asp?id='M12/12/20061:51:41PM'

Stewart disappeared in Texas about 9 months before the UID was found. She was 19, and her nose in the picture appears lopsided, though in the opposite direction. (Picture flipped?) No mention of the UID's ankle scar though, and Stewart has a scar on her breast that isn't mentioned for the UID. She's also listed as 5'1" versus the UID's 5'6".

Googlemaps says around 17 hours from Austin to Orlando: https://goo.gl/maps/QqLz6 That would mean about 34 hours round trip. Stewart's car was found two days later, so there would have been just time to get there and back -- though I don't know why somebody would drive 17 hours just to dump her in a lake. There are plenty of places to dump somebody in Texas.

So...I dunno. What do you think?

Jennifer Barton disappeared from Austin 5 days before Debra did. Each time I see either one of these women, I think of the other. There is no known evidence that they are related, but look at both when considering the timeline & location. Both have threads here tagged Travis County (Austin.)

She looks more like Stewart, but Barton's stats are a closer match.

The reconstruction's face/head is shaped more like Barton's. But both of those girls are missing from Texas. Ms Daniel was for the most part a local girl who wasn't really on the margins like a runaway or the like. I think JD would've been local like Daniel since they may have killed her too. They weren't trolling bus stations or places where people from out of town would congregate. He was somewhere where he could grab local girls, not people passing through town.

Uhh I think I might have found her.

This girl was just added to Charley today

Mabel Andrews

Age (17) is within the NamUs estimate of 17 - 20.
Race (African-American) matches.
Height (5'5) is within 1 inch.
Weight (115 lbs) is within 5 pounds.
Disappeared only 7 months from when the UP is estimated to have died.
Disappeared only 3.3 miles away from Lake Mann.
She looks similar to the reconstruction.
One side of her nose looks higher than the other, which corresponds with the UP.
UP had a defect in her left ankle. Mabel's pinky toe on one foot overlaps the toe right next to it, which could have been caused by said defect.

Mabel does not have DNA or dentals in NamUs so no automatic comparison could be made.

I just got off the phone with Ashley Shaughnessy (the contact listed on NamUs for the unidentified girl)

I didn't get the impression that Mabel was ever compared to the UP. Shaughnessy said that she'll ''definitely pursue this further'' and that she's going to get Mabel's DNA sample to compare against this girl.

Fingers crossed. I hope this pans out.

I called Ashley Shaughnessy. She says that it'll probably take 2 or 3 months until we know for sure whether Mabel and this girl are the same person, but it could take as long as 6 months.

If it is a match, I don't think it's going to be mine. She said a private investigator had spotted the match ''a few weeks ago'', so it was probably before my initial call (which was only 10 days ago). Regardless of whose match it is, I hope it pans out and LE can finally start working on who killed them instead of who the two girls were.

Here's the verification (from Charley Project) that one of the two UID's was NGD.

Nancy, 14, disappeared from Orlando, Florida on September 7, 1976. About six months later, hunter found her remains at the edge of Lake Mann in Orlando, four miles from where she was last seen. Nancy's body wasn't identified until June 2014, nearly forty years after her disappearance. Her death is still under investigation. The remains of another teen girl were found in the same vicinity in January 1977; they are still unidentified.

Is there a thread for the other (as yet unidentified) victim mentioned?

I found a thread for a "possible" for the UID, but couldn't find one for the UID itself.
FL FL - Mabel Louise Andrews, 16, Orlando, 16 Jan 1976 - One in a series?

Was there a thread for either before Nancy was ID'ed? Or was either one on here before she was?
