The woman’s body was found Wednesday afternoon at Tri-County Industries Inc. in Pine Township, Mercer County. That’s near Grove City, about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh.

State police Trooper Dan Kesten says investigators believe the body was dumped in the landfill by one of the company’s trucks, which collect trash from various parts of northwestern Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. Police believe that happened sometime between midnight and 3 p.m. Wednesday, when the body was found.

The woman has not been identified, but state police describe her as a white female between the ages of 16 to 25. She had long, brown hair, blue eyes, pierced ears and was about 5-feet tall.

She was wearing black yoga pants, a black tank top, white ankle socks with green trim and a green bra, reports the station.

Investigators said Tri-County often sends the waste collected at the transfer station to the landfill in Butler County for disposal. But troopers said they don’t know how the victim’s body ended up in Pine Township since Tri-County takes in hundreds of loads of garbage each day from all around the region.

“Which goes as far east as Clarion and as far west as Youngstown. It also goes as far north as Erie, down to Mercer County,” Kesten said.

At this point, investigators are waiting for autopsy results for a cause of death. An autopsy was completed on Thursday in Erie.

The circumstances surrounding a woman found dead Wednesday afternoon at a Pine, Mercer County, solid-waste transfer station continues to baffle investigators...

An autopsy was performed but is pending further investigation, said Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III on Thursday evening... He could not say how long the woman had been dead or whether she sustained any trauma.

I wonder who it could be. They didn't say skeleton. I had thought of the Stouffer girl.

Yeah, it sounds like a relatively recent death. I thought of Erica Klinger, but can't find any description of what she was last seen wearing. And she went missing nearly 250 miles to the east.

Based on the description of where collections are made that go to that landfill, she's probably someone who went missing from western PA, western NY, eastern OH, or northern WV.

It sounded like a recent death. Other reports said there were several missing persons in the area they were checking to look for an identity. It all sounded current. I always keep a watch out for older remains locally. With the location I would have though Michele Reidenbach at a first guess, but this did not sound at all cold as far as the age of remains.

Investigators say the remains of a female juvenile was discovered at the waste transfer station on Wednesday. However, authorities are not yet releasing the the name of the victim to the public, saying that another agency is conducting an investigation.

State Police did not identify the other agency, or the nature of the investigation.

Although an autopsy has been performed, the coroner has not released a cause of death. Authorities have previously said that they are treating the case as a homicide.

it would seem like we would hear about a young girl with blond hair and blue eyes that is missing by now.

Authorities say that a body found at a waste transfer facility is that of a teen missing from Austintown.

Police tell 21 News that that the victim is 16-year-old Gina Burger.

According to the Ohio Attorney General's missing persons website, Burger has been missing from Austintown since June 23, and was considered an endangered runaway.

We don't have a missing thread for Gina here. :(

BREAKING: Girl found in trash facility in Mercer has been identified as 16-year-old Gina Burger of Austintown, OH. Austintown Police tell me she was a runaway that was reported missing on Monday night...

Police tell me scars from a surgery and the clothing description helped positively identify her. They are now trying to find out who saw her last and where she was last seen.

And this is why we can't write off any missing teen as "just a runaway."

Also from the vindy.com article above:

"It's going to be very tough ... We're not sure how she died or where she died," Gavalier said.

First they drop the ball and call her a runaway, and then LE says that? You're supposed to be the law enforcement, you figure it out!

Gina Marie Burger, 16, of Austintown, Ohio, died of a stab wound to the chest, coroner J. Bradley McGonigle said.

Investigators were able to identify the teen by tracing numbers listed on steel rods surgically placed in her back to a facility in Texas, where the operation took place, Mr. McGonigle said...

The coroner wouldn't say if the teen had any other trauma on her body. Chief Gavalier said is awaiting the coroner's complete report on Gina's death before he could comment on other possible injuries.

Gavalier said there are no persons of interest in the case yet to his knowledge...

Gina was born in Florida, where the family lived for 12 years, and had moved to the Mahoning Valley only a few months ago from Texas... The family said Gina was kind, enjoyed reading books, often played with her nephew and liked to play cards with family members. “Why would someone want to do this?” her sister asked.

Bacher cautioned parents to keep a closer eye on their kids. “Who would think their child wouldn’t be safe going down the hall for tea bags?”

Authorities have no suspects in the apparent stabbing death of a 16-year-old township girl whose body turned up last week at a waste disposal site near the Mercer-Butler County line.

But investigators want to speak to an unknown boy, 16 or 17 years old, who had been showing up near Gina Bacher Burger’s apartment in the days leading up to her disappearance.

“We’re looking for this boy that we only know by the name ‘James,’” Austintown Police Chief Robert Gavalier said this morning. “We want to talk to him.” Gavalier stopped short of calling the boy a “person of interest.”
