PA - Robert Bettelli for raping 8yo girl, Emlenton, 2003
<>"An Emlenton man who acted as his own attorney during a March trial told a Venango County judge Tuesday that he did not understand proper court procedure during the trial in which he was found guilty of raping an 8-year-old girl. He claimed his constitutional rights were violated, but a judge sentenced him to prison.
When asked by Judge Oliver J. Lobaugh if he had anything to say before he was sentenced, Robert A. Bettelli, 35, unloaded a cacophony of complaints including a claim that a doctor who was called to testify did not know what caused physical damage to the girl he was found guilty of raping. He also claimed the girl didn't like him because he already was in jail....
...The girl, who was 10 years old at the time of the trial, testified that on several occasions Bettelli raped her and committed other violations while her mother was at work. The girl also said Bettelli tempted her with dolls and told her if she told anyone about the incidents, she would go to jail...
...A jury deliberated for about two hours before finding Bettelli guilty on all counts against him, including two counts of rape, two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault...."
