    Former French Pres in custody

'Nicolas Sarkozy today became the first former French president to be held in police custody as detectives questioned him over corruption allegations.
The 59-year-old arrived at the offices of the judicial police in Nanterre, the west Paris suburb, shortly after 8am.'

I've put it in up to the minute because it's not a crime case or prosecution yet. And, knowing France, it never will be....

In case anyone hasn't heard of him, NS is maybe better known for marrying supermodel Carla Bruni, former lover of Mick Jagger and credited (by Jerry Hall) for breaking up their marriage.

Sarkozy has appeared in court and been placed under formal investigation on corruption allegations. This is the first time this has ever happened to a former president of France. It's just unheard of.

yes....like what's the sudden interest all of a sudden huh??? bet the average man in street if interviewed would say, ''this is new?""

The French are usually non plussed about such things -- must be outside influence. A foreign bank perhaps.

Not only France, but I can't recall any other former President (outside the ME countries) being arrested. We all know how wide-spread some of the corruption (especially in Italy, France - to name a few) is in some European countries; yet, all the higher-ups seem to be untouchable. Are times changing? Perhaps, this will set a precedent (we can hope).
