Matthew Coniglio's Georgia home held a trove of child *advertiser censored*, more than 50,000 images and videos stored on laptops, external hard drives and thumb drives.

Among the stash, hidden in a bedside table turned around to conceal the doors, authorities made an even more horrifying discovery: 56 8-millimeter cassette tapes they say show him raping and molesting girls...

As for the alleged perpetrator, a 46-year-old traveling salesman who worked and lived in cities across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, "he often looks back at the camera and even speaks," Kirkconnell said. "There's no doubt it's Matthew Coniglio. None at all."

A man under investigation for being a child predator killed himself before police could discover how many young girls he victimized.

Im angry he killed himself in jail, said Sgt. John Schmitt, the Pooler police detective leading the investigation. I really wanted him to stand before his victims and a judge.

But Matthew J. Coniglios death hasnt ended the ongoing investigation by local, state and federal agencies.

Wow. The one victim they were able to identify, lived in the town next to me.

I hope every single family that had contact with this man will notify LE. That's the best chance they have at identifying his victims.

If you think you might have been a victim, or can help Pooler Police or the FBI with their investigation, call 1-800-CALL-FBI or 1-800-225-5324. There will be a live agent to speak to about the Matthew Coniglio case.

Several people have already come forward since News 3's investigation into a Pooler Sex Predator on Monday.

Pooler investigators and the FBI are asking for Matthew Coniglio's victims or co-workers to come forward as they continue the investigation. The FBI will also set up a national hotline as soon as Wednesday.

WSAV Crime Expert Gerry Long says this investigation won't be easy, for victims or investigators.

It began as an investigation into computer crimes, but soon uncovered a sexual predator.

Pooler police spoke only to News 3 about this case.

Six cities, three states at least 15 victims.

This is just horrible (except for the fact that the perp killed himself). I'm a little confused about the hotline. I understand they are looking for victims, but what happens to them? Will they be offered therapy? I can imagine many wouldn't come forward for fear their name(s) will end up in the paper. My heart hurts for them.

I saw this AP article today, published by WRAL News -- I had not heard of Coniglio until I saw this article -- at least he's no longer out there as a threat and an apparently pretty slick child predator. Total sleazebag, IMO -- he even sleazed out of earthly crime & punishment. What a sorry excuse for a near-human. Grrrrrr.

yep - it was a way out for him ... not because he felt remorseful or wanted to spare anyone else more trauma but because HE wanted to escape
