David NIXON was renting a room on Quigley Road and would visit his family who lived on Glen Echo Drive, on an almost daily basis. On Friday, July 6, 1984, after visiting with his mother, he left the family home around 11:00 am. David's uncle then spoke with him between 12:00 and 1:00 pm in downtown Hamilton around King and James Street. The uncle invited David to join him for a coffee but David declined stating he was late and had to go and meet someone. David was last seen walking westbound on King Street West from James Street.

Brady first picked up the case when it was about 20 years cold — and he's never put it down, mostly because of that family and what they've been through. He may not have succeeded in finding Nixon, but he can at least give them a single, caring, point of contact; which explains why he's talking to a reporter on his day off. "They've done everything they can do," said Brady. So, it seems, has he.

He believes that Nixon — a religious young man, devoted to his mother, with no criminal connections — never left the city. Foul play, he admits, is "the most likely explanation I can come up with... There was nothing to suggest he packed up and left... there's no suspicious behaviour." To date, he's ruled out something like 133 corpses, skeletons, remains, reports and sightings.

Reports from the day say Nixon left behind his ID, his latest unemployment cheque, his clothes, and he never touched his bank account.

David is described as a white male, 5'10" and 150 pounds, with blue eyes and curly light brown hair.

Police are working with new leads in a 30-year-old cold case of the missing David Nixon, who was last seen at the corner of King and James, on July 6, 1984.

Last week, as the anniversary date approeached, police made a public appeal for information on the three-decade old case...

"We had some calls with some new information that we will be following on," Brady said Monday. "Hopefully something can come from this."

Just found this case and was just about to start thread, glad one is already here, thanks for posting OkieGranny!
Wonder if David was a Grateful Dead fan?

"There was some speculation that David may have traveled to England to visit with a female friend that he had been exchanging letters with. David had left unexpectedly once before to visit British Columbia. Upon his arrival, David contacted his family. David had a very good relationship with his family and it is very uncharacteristic for him to not be in contact with them.

David was a religious person who would often read the bible. He also received and read literature from the World Wide Church of God in British Columbia. He had worked in retail sales, pizza delivery, manual labor type positions and had sold Amway products at one time.
He spent time on the west coasts of Canada and the United States in 1982. The Nixon family has traveled across Canada in search of David. They believe that David has been the victim of foul play."

Have always been intrigued with this disappearance - DN just vanished that day after seeing 2 family members at different times.

It's not stated if David had a vehicle or not. The street he lived on is relatively close to where his parents live or lived - it could be walked or a bus could have been available for some or all of the trip - if it was an almost daily trip then rain/snow etc would be encountered at times. But from either address to King and James is a hike - on a Friday afternoon.

According to the direction his uncle stated David was traveling on foot, it looks like in the direction of Jackson Square mall. If he got into a vehicle there - anything could have happened. He may not have been going that far though - considering he could have stayed on a bus, if that was his mode of travel.

His ID and last unemployment cheque found at his residence has always baffled me. Seems off for a 23 year-old man to travel across the city without ID. Those were the days of having to go to a bank to do one's banking - he would have been close to many on that particular route. Maybe he didn't need any cash for the weekend?

Baffling.

Wanted to add my comments from Grateful Dead Fan's post to here...
I think he is too old. He was 23 in 1984; would make him 35 in 1995

David Nixon was 24 years old when he was reported missing in 1984 but police say it wasn't until last month that remains found in Lake Ontario around that time were identified as his...

An unidentified male body was found in Lake Ontario in Toronto's east end in August 1984 but police say information provided about the remains did not match Nixon's description and the remains were buried in an unmarked grave in Toronto.

Hamilton police say they found out last month that the body had been confirmed as being Nixon's after DNA testing that involved comparing evidence from the cold case with DNA samples from Nixon's parents.

"DNA solved part of the mystery

Det. David Brady from Hamilton police took up Nixon's case several years ago. Hamilton police provided DNA samples from Nixon's parents — now in their 70s — to analyze alongside the remains provided by the OPP. The Centre of Forensic Sciences tested those samples and found a positive match between the two.

"2014 is a lot different than 1984. We now have DNA," Brady said. The police investigation has not been passed on to the homicide unit, though the family believes foul play may have been involved.

"For all of us that knew and loved Dave, he was too young and beautiful to meet this fate," his sister said. "We strongly believe that if foul play was involved, there are people out there who have information and know what happened to our brother."

"We are appealing to them to come forward. The recent confirmation of his death has raised more questions and we are committed to seek answers
."

Nixon says she doesn't know how her brother ended up in Lake Ontario near Bluffers Park, back in 1984. He grew up with his family in the east end of Hamilton and went to St. David's Elementary School before graduating from Cardinal Newman High School. Nixon loved sports, especially hockey and karate, his sister says."

Found this interesting, something to keep in mind when trying to match UIDs with missing persons, imo..

" Nixon was last seen by his uncle at the corner of King and James streets. He said he couldn't stop for a coffee because there was someone he needed to meet.

Almost a month after he went missing, Toronto police pulled a body out of Lake Ontario near Bluffers Park in Scarborough. But police didn't make the connection to Nixon at the time because, based on the condition of the body, it did not appear to match Nixon. DNA matching was not available at the time.

Gruspier said because of the length of time the body was in the water, the original estimates for age and weight did not match Nixon's description.

"When bodies have been in the water, they gain weight," said Gruspier, who added the original pathologist also estimated the body's age at between 30 and 40, although Nixon was only 23
