The truck is described as a late 80s or early 90s, Ford 150, green in colour and appears to be kept in very good condition. Photos of the vehicle can be found on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

From left to right, Kathryn Faye Liknes, 53, Nathan O'Brien, 5, and Alvin Cecil Liknes, 66, are shown in this combination of photos provided by Calgary police.

Amber Alert for boy and grandparents continues, police say they have “a big mystery” on their hands | video

* Five-year-old Nathan O'Brien was last seen at his grandparents' home on Sunday night.

* On Monday evening, police issued an Amber Alert for Nathan and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathryn Liknes. They think foul play is involved because the disappearance is out of character.

* Police say there is evidence that the three didn't leave the Liknes' home in Parkhill voluntarily. The grandparents aren't being treated as suspects and all of the Liknes' cars have been accounted for.

* Alvin and Kathryn Liknes held an estate sale over the weekend. Neighbours say the couple was talking about moving to Mexico. They were selling nearly everything in the home.

Calgary Amber Alert Issued After Boy And Grandparents Disappear

Police say the mother of Nathan O’Brien dropped him off at her parents' home at 10 p.m. Sunday night for a sleepover.

"She comes back at 10 this morning, notably sees that the house is not normally as it is and there's other things within the house that would lead us to believe that they did not leave on their own volition," said Calgary police spokesman Kevin Brookwell.

He said he couldn't give any details about what those things were and said the grandparents, 66-year-old Alvin Cecil Liknes and Kathryn Faye Liknes, 53, are not suspects.

"We're remaining optimistic that all three will be found safe and sound," Brookwell said. "Right now it's a suspicious disappearance of all three."

There are no custody issues with the family — the boy's parents are married and he is their biological son — and police have no history with the family, who are being co-operative, he added.

Police say they’re making progress in the troubling disappearance of a boy and his grandparents.

Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus said Thursday the case is less confounding due to video and witness evidence collected over the past few days.

“We have no suspects we can name but we have information that’s allowed us to move forward,” he said.

“I would say it’s less of a mystery but I can’t comment on the degree.”

Nathan O'Brien Amber Alert case 'less of a mystery,' say police

Calgary police say the disappearance of five-year-old Nathan O'Brien and his grandparents has become "less of a mystery," but investigators still have no motive or suspects they "can name."

The boy and his grandparents, Kathy and Alvin Liknes, haven't been seen since Sunday night. On Monday morning the boy's mother arrived to pick him up from a sleepover at his grandparents' home, only to find it empty. Police said there are signs the three did not leave the house willingly.

Fortney: Neighbour shocked by disappearances of five-year-old, grandparents on 'quiet, safe street'

She’s got her cowboy boots on, her trusty guitar in its case. About the only thing missing for Christie Simmons on Friday morning is her usual Stampede excitement.

“I keep thinking about how the Stampede parade is on, the pancake breakfasts and all this happiness happening,” says the local singer-songwriter and mother of three teenagers before she heads to a gig on the grounds. “And this family is going through this.”

Anyone paying attention to the news this week knows that Simmons is speaking about Alvin and Kathryn Liknes and their five-year-old grandson Nathan, last seen Sunday evening. On Friday, police confirm the abduction began with a violent incident in the Parkhill split-level the Liknes’ have called home for close to two decades.

Calgary police search property in Airdrie as ‘person of interest’ questioned in missing family case
July 6, 2014 | Last Updated: Jul 6 12:04 PM ET

“We don’t have a motive at this point,” Sgt. Andrus said. “We have a number of theories we’ve developed over the course of the investigation, and we’re going to continue to work on those theories.”

The search of the Airdrie property was likely to continue throughout the weekend, police suggested.

“Given the size of the property police will likely be there for the next 24 to 36 hours,” said Calgary Police Duty Inspector Joel Matthews.

About 20 officers had been doing a grid search late Saturday afternoon and into the evening before calling it quits for the night.

Douglas Garland faces identity theft charge in decades-old case, has link to Liknes family

The man police have called a "person of interest" in connection with the disappearance of a missing Calgary family faces a new charge this weekend related to a decades-old case of identity theft and also has a link to the Liknes family.

Douglas Garland, who was taken in for questioning from a rural Airdrie property on Friday, has a criminal history, including drug trafficking and possession of stolen property after he was caught making amphetamines on his parents' Airdrie acreage in 1992.

A document from the Tax Court of Canada indicates Garland was later discovered living under Hartley's stolen identity in Vancouver.

While Garland had already confessed to stealing Matthew Hartley's identity in the 1990s when he was hiding out in Vancouver, the new charge laid this weekend relates to the recent use of that same identity and allows police to keep him remanded in custody until at least tomorrow.
