    A little more info here:

The department said that Renn and another officer responded to a report of shots being fired on the northeastern side of the city. When the two approached an alley near where the shots were reported, they saw a group of people. As the officers approached, 25-year-old Major Davis Jr. of Indianapolis began shooting, prompting officers to return fire, police said.

Davis was wounded by one of the officers and was taken to the same hospital where Renn died. He is listed as being in critical condition. Police say Davis has been preliminarily charged with murder.

Indianapolis police officers will be safer thanks to 8-year-old Jacen Troxell and his little brother... After the murder of Officer Perry Renn last month, they wanted to raise $10,000 to buy bulletproof vests for police. Their parents helped. Mom and Dad admit they expected only family and friends to donate. They said they didn’t imagine the fundraiser could be as successful as it is...

“Sure enough, he’s raised well over $10,000. He’s up to over $16,000 now,” said Detective Andrew Troxell, father of the boys.

Several years ago, Jacen had a school project to answer the question “What do you wish?” His was, “I wish that police officers would not get killed.”

Davis had an appearance in a Marion County courtroom Tuesday morning where afterward officials confirmed to 24-Hour News 8 he now faces the death penalty... Curry said there were two aggravating circumstances that support a death penalty case: that Davis killed Renn while Renn was on duty as a police officer, and that the murder was motivated by an act Renn performed while acting in the course of his duty as an officer.

A jury trial in Davis’ case is scheduled for Dec. 1.

The whole back story on Major Davis Jr. and Sr. as 'justification' for this murder is sickening.
Six-year-old Shannon Sherrill disappeared from her front yard in Thorntown, Indiana in October, 1986. Someone knows where she is......

Misdeeds of Family and Friends of Major Davis Jr. Exposed in Housing Probe

Housing fraud probe targets family, friends of suspect in Indianapolis officer’s death
POSTED 6:24 PM, OCTOBER 9, 2014, BY RUSS MCQUAID, UPDATED AT 09:32PM, OCTOBER 9, 2014

    The murder of Officer Renn during a backyard family cookout on July 5th led investigators to determine a pattern between Davis, his family and associates and other crimes, particularly murders, in Indianapolis;

“Many of our investigations do end up in public housing,” said Bailey. “One particular investigator in public housing makes it a goal of his every single time there is a homicide in the city of Indianapolis, regardless of if it’s related to public housing or not, he goes back to review and see if the people involved, victims, suspects, other people that were there, have any sort of tie to public housing and investigates whether or not if they are using public housing funds appropriately.”

    All in the Family

Unbelievable.... the number of associates of Major Davis II who are involved in criminal activity. Snipped from the link above:

Pam Moorman is described as the matriarch of a family of, “prolific shoplifters and preofessional grifters.”

Moorman has a record of more than 50 arrests for shoplifting.

Ruffin was first apprehended as a child while participating in her mother’s shoplifting ring.

She is accused of falsifying documents regarding her relationship to Davis and the amount of financial support he provided her while qualifying for public housing aid.
IMPD SWAT teams served several warrants, including one at the home of Davis’ mother, Cynthia Davis, in the 2900 block of Dearborn Street.
Ruffin is the mother of Davis' children and Moorman is her mother.

Man accused of killing officer wants to represent himself
On Friday, Davis told Marion Superior Court Judge Marc Rothenberg that he wasn't getting along with his attorneys, Ray Casanova and Eric Koselke, and wanted them withdrawn from the case.

"You're saying you want to represent yourself in a death penalty case where your life is on the line?" Rothenberg asked.

    "Yes," Davis replied.

    (...)

Rothenberg refused to consider Davis' latest request until he properly filed the motion to represent himself. At that point, Rothenberg said he would tell Davis "every reason why he shouldn't" represent himself. The judge referenced the adage that a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.

Davis' next court hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 20.

The man accused of killing an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer appeared in court on Friday.

    Major Davis, Jr.
appeared before a judge for a hearing on a motion to withdraw appearance after Davis requested to have his attorneys dismissed and he be allowed to represent himself. The judge granted a motion for a determination of competency and put Davis’ request to represent himself under advisement.

Man pleads guilty in fatal shooting of Indianapolis officer
A 27-year-old man on Friday pleaded guilty to murder in the fatal shooting of an Indianapolis police officer, in a deal that spares him the death penalty.

Major Davis will be sentenced April 27 in the July 2014 slaying of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer Perry Renn. The plea agreement calls for Davis to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
