At about 5 p.m. Saturday, state police in Morgantown contacted Hardy County troopers after the arrest of Joseph Christy, 32, and Summer McDaniel, 26, both of Missouri.
Police had noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at Sheetz in Sabraton and soon learned it had been stolen. After a brief chase along Interstates 68 and I-79, Christy was arrested without incident. Four children ages 11, 7, 4 and 2 were also found in the car. Christy and McDaniel were both charged with child neglect. None of the children was wearing seatbelts.
During the investigation troopers learned Christy allegedly had killed an infant child and buried the baby at a campsite in Hardy County. At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Christy led troopers to the shallow grave of his 26-day-old son Ashter Christy, whose body was sent to the state Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.
