Search for missing man resumes
Published 12:04am Saturday, February 25, 2012

Shaun Thornhill, 41, was last seen alive Jan. 23 in the West Feliciana community of St. Francisville, approximately 60 miles south of where his vehicle was found later that week.

A spokesperson for the ACSO said Friday both the ACSO and WFPSO scoured the woods in the Kingston area near where Thornhill’s truck was found. Cadaver-sniffing dogs were also used during the search. The ACSO spokesperson said the renewed search was due to a newly developed lead, but declined to specify the details of the lead.

No answer yet, but the man who discovered the remains believes the decedent is male.

Swan said from what he could tell, it looks like a man's body. "You could still see the clothes they had on; I saw the imprint of a wallet in his pocket," he said.

Swan said he last brush-hogged the same property about a year ago and the remains weren't there.

"(The body) had to be dumped there within that time frame," he said.

Skeletal remains that were found in July near the Old Ferry Landing in St. Francisville, belonged to a man who has been identified as Kenneth Dwayne Bennett, 58, of Baton Rouge...

"A wallet and an ID were found near the remains; however, in order to make a positive identification, we had to wait until we got the official DNA results back before we could release a name," Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said in a news release. "Rushing to put out a name was not in the best interest of the deceased or his family members."

A vehicle identified as belonging to Bennett was found at the bottom of the ferry landing ramp submerged in the Mississippi River in early August. The water level at that time was very low and a boater noticed the submerged vehicle.
