    IL - Steven Schulz, 22, DeKalb, 6 July 2014

    Steven Schulz

Search on for missing DeKalb man
Schulz's truck found abandoned near Kirkland

Search and rescue crews are combing the area around Route 72 and Annie Glidden Road today after police found the abandoned pickup truck of a missing DeKalb man there. Steven Schulz, 22, was reported missing by his family late Monday night, DeKalb police said. He was last seen in DeKalb on Sunday. Police said he has not spoken with family members or friends. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was contacted about Schulz early Tuesday morning, Deputy Chief Gary Dumdie said. They determined that an unattended pickup truck found early Monday on Annie Glidden north of Route 72 near a bridge in that area belonged to Schulz.

Friends: Missing DeKalb man planned to get gun

    KINGSTON –
Steven Schulz told friends he was meeting a man near Genoa to get a gun before he was last seen Sunday. Schulz, 23, was reported missing late Monday night, and multiple search and rescue crews were looking for him near where his abandoned truck was found outside Kirkland on Tuesday....

I've never created a map. Here's a link to the tollway exits and entrances.
Did Steve make it to Genoa at all?

The timeline isn't clear through the info given in the articles.
Where does Steve reside? Is he a student?
Was he going to get a gun due to fear or because he was acting weird?

Not clear what anyone is thinking - foul play, self harm or what?

Last seen on Sunday by friends.
He was reported missing late in the evening on Monday by a family member or, per other article, early Tuesday morning.
Truck was found outside of Kirkland on Tuesday (per one article), another article reports truck was found early Monday morning.

omg, can reporters get it together? I'm having a hard enough time myself these days (but don't get paid).

Now they are reporting the truck was found in Kingston, not Kirkland.
    A helicopter search is underway.

Genoa is directly north of DeKalb. Rt. 72 runs east/west through Genoa. Rt. 72 is closer to Genoa. Annie Glidden is a north/south road.

    On this map,

    https://maps.google.com/maps?psj=1&b...ed=0CBwQ8gEwAA,

I don't see Annie, just Glidden Road.(depends on browser used)

I see Kirkland Road just east of the Potawatomi Forest Preserve and a Kingston Road east of Glidden Road and north of Rt. 72.

When referring to Kirkland and/or Kingston it sounded as if they are towns. I see roads with those names.

I got booted off and the forum is running slow. What's up with that?

If I were to guess, the truck was probably found along Kirkland Road, which runs north, east of the forest preserve, juts west a bit and then turns north again.
This road is closest to a river. Forest preserves are seldom good locations in missing person cases.

I hope Steve is found soon and that he is safe.

This one gives me a bad feeling. Perhaps the gun for sale was just a ploy to rob someone and the robbery went bad? How did he learn of this gun? Did he know the guy? Or is he a friend of a friend? Craig's List ad? I wish there was a little more information.

Schulz was last seen Sunday, and Redel said Schulz’s phone records show he hasn’t contacted anyone since.

Other than the fact they found his Ford pickup nearby, police said they had little indication Schulz was in the area...

The search Tuesday was confined to a half-mile area of the north branch of the Kishwaukee River, along with its banks on either side. Two K-9 officers were on a boat in the river looking for any evidence. The dogs barked occasionally, but no evidence was ultimately found, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gary Dumdie said.

13 News spoke with DeKalb County Deputy Chief Gary Dumdie this morning, and he says the search for Steven Schulz on land is essentially over. Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and officers with the DeKalb Police Department came up with negative results from yesterday's search efforts in the immediate area where Schulz' truck was found.

Members with the Sheriff's Office are set to meet with the Department of Natural Resources and search the Kishwaukee River. They are expected to search by kayak throughout most of today's daylight hours. According to Dumdie, DNR officials won't likely reach the Rock River because they believe if Schulz hit the water, it would have been very difficult for him to get past several natural dams already in place along the Kishwaukee River.

What do they mean - the search is essentially over? That makes me mad! He is somebody! He has people who love him, who care about him....

Another article said "firearms exchange" - so I don't feel so bad about the meeting.

They're still searching the river. I guess they have reason to believe he might be in there?

So sad. But now I wonder if the person he was supposed to trade guns with took Steven's gun and made him jump at gunpoint

I think I can post this now that Steven has been found deceased (2 more pictures of him and also mentions same info about exchanging guns):

I hope that friend or someone else knows who he was meeting, their phone number, etc. so LE can talk to them.
