What do we know about the motives for the murder of Todd Hansmeier? Was this a drug deal gone bad? Was it over a debt? I went to school with both of them and suspect they were lovers. Does anyone have any additional information? According to news reports Terry was high on Cocaine when he crashed the stolen car. What do we know of the rest stop murder victim?

Welcome to WS systems! It looks like you are correct about Dotty and Todd Hansmeier being involved in a relationship. According to Huff Post :

He faces charges of first-degree murder and domestic battery in connection with the earlier incident, police said. No charges have yet been established in connection with the rest stop incident, a Rockford police spokesman said.

I was hoping to get some insight from someone at QVSM aka Quancor Marketing Solutions. Does anyone have any additional info?

Now they think he may have killed before in 1993.
I'm surprised there isn't more interest in this case.

A 15 year-old girl from Hononegah High disappeared 20 years ago, only to turn up dead in the Rock River. Now her case is being re-examined by investigators all these years later.

Stephanie Johnston's death investigation file at the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department has been turned over to the lead agencies working the Terence Doddy murder investigations at her family's request, according to Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s Jury ruled the manner of 15-year-old Stephanie L. Johnston’s death undetermined after her body was found frozen in the Rock River in December of 1993. According to Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro, Doddy and Johnston dated while they attending Hononegah High School in Rockton, but they were not a couple when Johnston went missing in November.

“Whenever someone is charged with a serious crime, we investigate the person as a whole,” Iasparro said. “Investigators who were working here at the time of Johnston’s case, as well as family members, helped resurrect her case based on Doddy’s arrest”...

Doddy is also a suspect in the death of Tonya Bargman, 44, of Monticello. Bargman was killed in a Will Creek Rest Stop bathroom on Interstate 39 near Paw Paw, Ill. Surveillance video shows Bargman being attacked by a man on July 1.

After his arrest, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department decided to re-examine the death of Stephanie L. Johnston who died in December of 1993 when she was 15. Her body was found in the Rock River near Rockton. Her death was ruled a drowning and it was undetermined what caused the drowning...

“Physical evidence was re-evaluated and additional interviews were conducted with family and friends,” the news release stated. However, no new information was developed, nor did any information surface that indicated Doddy was involved in Johnston’s death.

According to court documents, Doddy allegedly asphyxiated Mrs. Bargman by putting his hands around her throat and stuffing her head in the toilet in the rest area bathroom. Doddy, who did not know Mrs. Bargman, was already wanted by police in connection with the murder of a Rockford man, Todd Hansmeier, who was found dead a day earlier by firefighters responding to a blaze at the victim's workplace in Rockford.

Doddy was arrested on July 4 in Wisconsin after a police chase that crossed the state border multiple times. A Winnebago County grand jury indicted him in July for the murder of Mr. Hansmeier. In August, prosecutors in Lee County, where Mrs. Bargman's death occurred, filed separate murder charges.

Mrs. Bargman was a vice president at Central Illinois Bank in Monticello, where the mother of two boys lived with her husband. She was on her way home from a work-related conference when she stopped at the Paw Paw rest area on I-39.

Last week, Doddy pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the July 1 strangulation and drowning of wife and mother Tonya Bargman, 44, of Monticello, inside the Paw Paw Interstate-39 rest area.

Bruscato's office cooperated with Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller to prosecute Doddy in both jurisdictions. Sentencing in Lee County is scheduled for June 1 and June 2.

Truitt said he would have no discretion at sentencing in Winnebago County because Doddy pleaded guilty to Bargman's killing in Lee County,.

"If you persist in pleading guilty, you will be subject to a mandatory life sentence," Truitt told Doddy. "There is no discretion to the court. If you pled guilty or were found guilty after a trial, you must be sentenced to life in prison. Do you understand that?"

A Rockford man accused of killing two people in a span of about two days – including a former Sterling resident – likely will be sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in the second slaying.

Terence Doddy pleaded guilty in the death of his best friend, 37-year-old Todd Hansmeier, who was found dead in June inside Doddy’s workplace. Prosecutors said Doddy admitted to investigators that he was responsible for the man’s death and told them he took Hansmeier’s vehicle, credit cards and ATM card without permission.
