    Christopher Lee hearing rescheduled in Erin Corwin case
    October 29, 2014

    Isabel Megli was in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Wednesday to deal with a livestock citation when she noticed a shackled Christopher Lee sitting just a few feet away in the jury box.

    It was the first time the Yucca Valley woman saw her former tenant since he was arrested two months ago on suspicion of killing Erin Corwin, whose disappearance sparked a massive search that ended when her body was found in a mine shaft.

    He was in court for a formal appearance that precedes a preliminary hearing. However, it was rescheduled to Dec. 2 so the defense could review evidence.

    Lee's attorney, David Kaloyanides, said he received "several discs and documents" this week. He added Lee was doing well and understood the court process may last awhile.

    "Rushing to court is never a good idea, and it's rarely possible in a complex case," Kaloyanides said after the hearing.

    Christopher Lee to return to court in March

    Dougherty said Corwin's possible pregnancy, as well as other specific details, could be discussed during March 4 preliminary hearing.

    If Corwin was pregnant, the charges against Lee could be doubled.

    California law allows prosecutors to file murder charges in the slaying of unborn children, and San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos has said in a prior interview that additional charges are a possibility.

    Corwin’s accused killer in hearing
    April 1, 2015

    Christopher Brandon Lee, the former Marine accused of murdering Erin Corwin and leaving her body in an abandoned mine shaft, will be in court Thursday, April 2, and possibly Friday, April 3, for a preliminary hearing.

    ~~~
    During a pre-pre-liminary hearing before Cortez on Wednesday, April 1, attorneys sparred over objections the defense attorney made to two pieces of evidence they believed prosecutors were planning to introduce.
    Erin Corwin expected proposal the day she disappeared
    April 2 2015
    Erin Corwin thought she was being taken into the desert for a marriage proposal. Excited, she texted a friend in Tennessee, eager to share the big news.
    "The location is only half the surprise," Corwin texted. "He said he's honestly not sure how I'm going to react … Seriously, I don't know why he would drag me to a very special place … for a big dumb surprise."
    Corwin's texts about Chris Lee were happy, sprinkled with emoticons and "LOLs."
    She was oblivious to the fact that she was about to die.
    What if Erin Corwin had never been found?
    April 7, 2015
    Two prosecution experts said this week that High Desert law enforcement could have filed a strong case against homicide suspect Chris Lee even if authorities never found the body of Erin Corwin.
    Tad DiBiase, a former Washington D.C prosecutor, and David Butt, a former Toronto prosecutor, both of whom have previously won "no-body" homicide cases, told The Desert Sun that the circumstantial evidence against Lee, amassed before Corwin's body was located, was likely enough for a difficult-yet-winnable prosecution.
    Christopher Lee pleaded not guilty to Erin Corwin murder
    April 22, 2015
    The man accused of murdering Erin Corwin, then dumping her body in an abandoned, unmapped mine shaft in California pleaded not guilty to all charges in an arraignment Wednesday morning.
    ~~
    Due to decomposition, the autopsy was unable to confirm whether or not Corwin was pregnant, despite the fact that Corwin believed she was pregnant when she went missing. If Corwin had been confirmed pregnant, Lee would likely face a second murder charge.
    Mother of Oak Ridge woman murdered in California opens up
    April 24, 2015
    “She was happiest on the back of a horse,” said Heavilin.
    Heavilin said Erin’s second home was the East Tennessee Riding Club in Oak Ridge. It’s now become a place of comfort for her as she copes with her daughter’s death.
    “She was sweet, kind, very naive. She would get upset if I killed a spider in the house,” Heavilin said.
    Days before search teams found Erin, her mother received a message from her.
    “I had a dream and she walked up to me in that dream and said, ‘Mom, it wasn’t supposed to be this way. I had so many plans for my life,’ and she walked away.”
    Lee attorney seeks removal of judge from murder case
    June 3, 2015
    He said this week he hopes a court of appeal will issue a ruling on his writ of mandate seeking Cortez’ removal from the case, in time for the next pre-trial hearing, set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, in Dept. M2 of the courthouse in Joshua Tree.
    Kaloyanides previously asked Judge Rod Cortez to recuse himself from officiating at the trial. Cortez, at a hearing on May 22, denied the request, saying it was not filed in a timely manner.
    Desert Hot Springs police chief 'here for the long haul'
    --video @ link
    For a string of days last summer, Dale Mondary wondered how the homicide team at the San Bernardino County 505/
    Sheriff’s Department beat him to the office every morning.
    Mondary led the department’s Joshua Tree station while authorities scrambled to solve the disappearance of Erin Corwin, the young wife of a Twentynine Palms Marine.
    He worked hard — 10-12 hours every day for nearly four weeks. But the homicide team always started before him, buried in work by the time he got in.
    Finally, Mondary raced to work one morning, determined to get there first. He caught the homicide team clambering out of their vehicles. They were sleeping in their cars.
    “They were just incredible,” Mondary said. “And I was just lucky enough to be associated and be a part of that.”
    my opinion...........and i happen to agree with it.....
    Trial date set for Corwin murder
    By Russel Langley/The Oak Ridger
    Posted Jan. 28, 2016
    A trial date had been set for an ex-Marine accused of killing former Oak Ridge resident Erin Corwin.
    The trial for Christopher Brandon Lee is set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 29 in San Bernardno, Calif., according to The Hi-Desert Star newspaper in Yucca Valley, Calif. The Oak Ridger in September reported the trial location had been moved to San Bernardino after the two judges in the town of Joshua Tree had been disqualified from hearing the case.
