A 98 year old Lady, Mary Phillips, is being evicted from her apartment in San Francisco, after paying her rent on time for 50 years.

The landlord is legitimately using a legal loophole to do so.

That still doesn't make it right, in my opinion. Mary isn't taking it laying down and is fighting but still - she shouldn't be facing that kind of battle at her age. It's just a crying shame.

It's not a private landlord in urgent need who owns the apartment, it's a big property investment company.

wow..............that's been happening elsewhere too..I believe the owner should be forced to find her equivalent accommodation and pay any difference in her rent.

Urban Green Investments (UGI) has filed a lawsuit to evict Mary Phillips, although they have not served it yet. Instead, they are proceeding with litigation against her close friend and caregiver Sarah Brant, who also lives in the building, understanding that if they evict Sarah, then Mary cannot remain as the sole occupant of a building that is being turned into a construction zone.
