Additional Information :
Daniel is believed to have arrived in Temagami on November 3, 2011. His car was located on Red Squirrel Road near Camp Wanapitei at Ferguson Bay.

Dan is very resourceful and comfortable in a natural environment. He is also familiar with Temagami as he spent time in the summer canoeing and portaging extensively through Temagami. While Dan does have some supplies, he does not have communication equipment with him.

Since it is very unusual for Dan to not have contact with family and friends for extended periods of time, Daniel's family has continued to organize searches.

On May 20th, 2012, Daniel's ski jacket and snowboarding/ski pants were located at Diamond Lake which is approximately 47 km (29 Miles) from where his car was located. The articles of clothing were located just before the lift over Lady Evelyn Lake on the north-east side.

On August 12, 2013 Daniel's backpack was located approximately 5 kms southeast of where his winter clothes were recovered. In September 2013, Daniel's work gloves and orange t-shirt were located in his car. These items are no longer considered missing.

In 2014, search activities are planned for the areas on the South-West side of Lady Evelyn between the small unnamed lake and Willow Island Lake.

For further details about areas that have been searched and other shared information, please visit: Ottertooth - Temagami - ALERT - Missing Person.

If any items of interest are located, please do not move or disturb the item(s). Simply take a photograph and note the GPS coordinates. Report this information to police as soon as possible.

Daniel's family has made a number of photos available that were taken by Daniel during his 2011 September visit to Temagami. The photos show some of the "signs" that Daniel is believed to have created and some of the locations that he had visited. Click here to view the photos."

Families of missing live in limbo
By Greg Mercer"

" WATERLOO — Two years ago, 28-year-old Daniel Trask vanished into the wilds of Temagami's back country. He hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Police divers, search crews, tracking dogs and volunteers scoured the vast forests and lakes of the Northern Ontario wilderness region, and found some pieces he left behind, including his snow pants, backpack and abandoned car.

They discovered a trail of cryptic messages from a previous trip to Temagami, too — but still, no body.

For his family in Waterloo, his disappearance left an emotional hole and a constant supply of painful, nagging questions. Without a word, the athletic, rebellious young man drove off from his Craigleith Drive home before the sun rose on Nov. 3, 2011, and slipped away for good."

Wow I live in Waterloo, first time hearing about this. Where is Daniel??!!

Interesting comments from Daniel's Mom about how he once found a green snake, (pic included) and how a green snake was in his backpack when it was found...
Fwiw, everything in that snake photo is longish and narrow- ish, the road, trees, tower, snake, upward thumb- with a perfect triangle formed by Daniel's fingers, reminds me of a crevice...

Not unlike the crevice in this movie, " 127 Hours" based on true story, imo. speculation, ect.

Does anyone know who he did roofing for before he left? I know a lot of roofing companies here. Curious if I know the company that hired him on.

Will poke around here to see if any roofing companies are mentioned, in the meantime updated list of items found and still missing..

This really reminds me of the Book/movie Into the Wild. The pictures found on his camera are interesting. I just cant see how he would survive winter with his clothing that was found. So odd. Seemed very aware of his surroundings and experienced being in the outdoors. Doesn't make sense.

Wondering if people think Daniel " vanished " on purpose, or got lost/ hurt, or was victim of foul play?

Article posted just prior to Daniel being found..

http://torontoobserver.ca/2015/05/2...nts-more-powers-for-police-to-help-searchers/

"Maureen Trask’s son Daniel, 28 (at the time), went missing in the dense Tamagami wilderness in 2011 and was never found. Since then Trask has become an advocate for families of the missing. Currently there are a lot of road-blocks in locating missing people, making the job nearly impossible for police, according to Trask.

“We learned that it’s not that they’re not doing their job, it’s that they can’t do their job,” she told students at Centennial College in Toronto, Friday April 17. “Where there is no evidence of crime… they can’t get access to personal information, or locations.”

Even the families can’t go to the local hospital in the case of a missing adult, and ask “Is my son in this hospital?” she added.”They [the hospital] can’t give you that information…There is nothing legal that says they have to.”

"This was what we were here to find," Trask told Postmedia Thursday. "We suspect he fell and suffered a fracture, but the cause of death is still inconclusive."

She said a rib bone was found Wednesday, but it's not yet clear if the bone is human or animal. It, too, has been sent for testing.

Police have not said whether they suspect foul play in Trask's death."

"Daniel, 28, was on his journey in the Temagami backcountry, missing since Nov. 3, 2011. With the help of the Michigan Backcountry SAR team, he was found on May 24, 2015 cradled in a thick carpet of pine needles beneath towering old growth trees, alongside a babbling brook on the east side of Lady Evelyn Lake opposite Walsh Lake"

I just came across your information here and want you to know I appreciate your help in sharing Daniel's case. We are very fortunate to have had the MibSAR Team search for Daniel, and last year (May 24, 2015) finding his partial remains. We have ended our journey of uncertainty and are finding peace.

Know that it appears he had an accident, based on the fracture on his skull. There is no evidence of foul play. We will never have all the answers, but at least we have the big one.
