It looks as though another no-body trial will be taking place in the UK.

'A man has been charged with the murder of a woman who vanished in Leeds 14 years ago.'

'Gemma Simpson was 23 when she was last seen in the Harehills area on 5 May 2000, when she told a friend she was on her way to visit another friend in Huddersfield.'

The man arrested is Martin Bell, 44, of St Leonard's Crescent.

There are some more details about Gemma's case at the link below. She lived away from home so her mother wasn't too alarmed when she didn't hear from her for a day or two. But when she went around to Gemma's home, a window was smashed and she knew there was a problem.

She thought someone might have held a grudge against Gemma because of her sexuality (Gemma was a lesbian).

There have been no sightings of Gemma since that day 14 years ago. Martin Bell is due back in Leeds Crown Court court July 15th. He hasn't entered a plea.

Bell pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility when he appeared at Leeds Crown Court earlier this week.

Judge Peter Collier QC gave him a life sentence and ordered him to serve a minimum of 12 years. Judge Collier said, "The killing of Gemma Simpson was brutal. Your treatment of her body after death was dreadful. But your culpability was considerably diminished by your mental illness."

Just stumbled upon this thread. I live in Leeds but had never heard about her, not even when her body was found (at local nature/beauty spot Brimham Rocks where I go regularly) last year. Strange. Must watch local news more often! RIP Gemma.
