Achievements of the Baden Powell wives

Is a wife off topic in a mistress thread? Hope not.

The Baden Powell - Baden Clay wives; bravery, loyalty, faithfullness, love and endurance.

(sorry, mistresses excluded. This is a traditional family here)

    Lady Olave Baden Powell:

'Olave left for France on 7 October 1915, (WW1) when she was 26, and her second child was five months old. Her regular work in the Mercers' hut included serving cocoa and cigarettes and chatting to those who came in. She also recalled in her autobiography playing her violin and singing at the Christmas Concert. Olave also adopted a number of stray animals during her time in Val-de-Lievres.'

    The lady Allison Baden Clay:

'From an early age she studied and strived to achieve perfection in whatever she attempted... she always advanced to become a leader because of her intelligence and friendly personality... she was always willing to help others and as such entered the Miss Queensland competition to fundraise for the cerebral palsy foundation'

zwiebel, this appeared to need a thread of its own. Let me know if you'd like a different title.

Gulp. Didn't know anyone was watching.

A thread for the achievements of the Baden Powell wives would be nice though. Allison and her daughters are part of it.

'Lady BP was a young woman when she married Lord BP and became an active Scouter. Some stamps such as this one show her as she appeared in the very early days of the Scout and Guide movement. '

The Baden-Powell women legacy; Olave ensured girl scouts throughout the world come together every year.

Allison Baden Clay will leave a legacy too, I'm sure. Just waiting to find out what it will be.

If anyone is on Facebook, Olave's Fb seem to have forgotten their tribute to Allison. It would be nice if someone could remind them.

That the Baden Powell/Clay women are much, much, better than the men. And that the men marry well but don't always appreciate it.

Allison is fully deserving of an entry on Wiki Baden Powell. It will honor it. Can anyone do it? If not, I might be able to, but I'm not the best person.

May I suggest that you go through Mr Dickie's victim impact statement as it details how Allison learned several languages and was a high achiever, etc. This needs to be included on Wiki if possible - in fairness to her. My opinion only.

Zwiebel, I hope not to be impolite, but I'm hoping to see the 'Baden-Clay' moniker removed from Allison and her daughters as soon as possible. It would be inhumane, imo, for Allison's daughters to have to go through life with that awful name blighting their lives, relationships, etc. I do not see the 'Baden' collection of letters as having anything of value to impart. Gerard Baden Clay shares only 12.5% of his ancestry with Baden Powell the scouts founder. This means Allison's daughters would share only 6.3% of their ancestry with that name. It's said we are related to every 33rd person we encounter. It's negligible, imo. The 'Baden' component would be curse to Allison's children, rather than any type of blessing

To me, the name 'Baden Clay' sounds ridiculous in any case. Nigel 'Baden' Clay's father was Gervais Clay -- no 'Baden' about it. Gervais Clay sounds from all accounts to have been a gentleman. He was married to Nigel Clay's mother, who dropped the entire 'Baden' malarkey from her name when they married. She was content to be Mrs Clay. Her brothers inherited the Baden Powell surname, naturally, as do their descendants. NBC clearly saw advantage in the 'Baden' component, so added it to his birth name of Nigel Clay as an adult. And look at the result of that fame-chasing: a son who capitalized on the 'Baden' element and who was raised to believe five letters set him above everyone else

No, to my mind, the antiquated and now infamous 'Baden' family have not earned the right to include Allison June Dickie amongst their ranks. I was sad to hear Mrs Dickie commence her victim statement yesterday with 'I am here to talk about Allison June Baden Clay'. I would much have preferred for her to say, 'I am here to talk about Allison Dickie', thereby removing the Baden-tarnish from Allison

The less I hear of the word 'Baden' from now on, the better

I completely understand that point of view, laserdisc10. And if Allison's family had refused to even acknowledge her change of name to Baden Clay, I wouldn't have started this thread. But they did. And I think the association with the family can't be undone now and will be forever there - Allison married into it and did not want a divorce.

And even though it's been an absolute tragedy for Allison, I really think her bravery and intelligence should be acknowledged, especially in this family that seems to value the male lineage above all, no matter how weak, corrupt or unintelligent it is.

My fear is that when we're no longer around, Allison's name will just come up as a footnote to the Baden Powell family history in future, as the 'murdered wife'. I'd just hate to see that happen.

But I don't know if I'm right. If everyone thinks this is a bad idea, I certainly won't pursue it.
