Jerome Barr, 69, had a cut on his nose, was dehydrated and appeared disoriented but otherwise was in good health, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office said.
Forest Service workers found him near Davies Creek Campground on the northeast side of Stampede Reservoir.
Barr told rescuers he was driving on a dirt road near Stampede Reservoir when an all-terrain vehicle passed him and cut him off.
