Homicide and organised crime squad investigate woman's disappearance on Gold Coast

February 11, 2013

THE husband of missing Gold Coast mum Novy Chardon went overseas with their children two days after she disappeared, police say.
They say John Chardon's trip to Indonesia was a pre-planned business trip originally to be made without his children, aged 7 and 9.

Police say they have made contact with Mr Chardon in Indonesia and expect him back "hopefully soon" to answer questions.

A major crime scene has been established at the Chardon's Upper Coomera home and detectives from the Homicide and Major and Organised Crime squads are involved in the investigation.

Mr Chardon has been found guilty of the (reduced) number of charges, and still maintains his innocence. He will face sentence on August 15. Meanwhile his bail terms have been continued to allow him to "get his business and family affairs in order" (to quote GBC) however he must report daily to police and surrender his passport.

Hmmmm

Sorry, as this is a new thread, I should have added that this is not related to his wife, Novy, disappearing, but in relation to the rape of a teenage friend of his daughter, 15 years ago.
I've only seen one bit of tv footage from earlier in the week and he was chewing gum. I wonder if he knows he can't smoke anything stronger than tea leaves "inside", if he receives a custodial sentence. However all that will await developments.

For some reason I was under the impression his passport had been taken away some time back.

No, Marls, he has been free to travel so far because his business had so many overseas interests. He wasn't considered a "flight" risk when his monetary base is here, plus his 2 youngest children.

Gold Coast millionaire John Chardon, 66, continued to protest his innocence despite a jury of 12 finding him guilty of six sex offences including rape and attempted rape after a week-long trial.

“I didn’t do it, I just couldn’t get beyond the lies,” he told Southport District Court Judge Clive Wall QC.

Yes, we can't get beyond the lies either  . But somehow I don't think we're speaking of the same lies.

Anyway, thank goodness he has been found guilty of the first round of charges.

Now ... to move on to some charges in Novy's murder. :please:

Why is he being given a little holiday from jail to get his "business in order"? Is that how sex criminals are *usually* treated, when convicted? Why is the convicted child molester the one organising his kids - and not DHS? As his two lovely daughters have also been named as "persons of interest" in the murder of Novy, it would rile me to no end if the children end up in their care...

I've said it before and I will say it again- it smells to me like JC has a few pals in high places. Ones which thankfully could not prevent him going to jail, if indeed that is why he is STILL walking around free (for the moment)...

I wonder whether investigations into Chardon re Novy will move any faster now...

No news on the bones found in the drain yet - but it made me happy to see how many people are thinking about Novy and hoping she is found, when I read the comments about this story on the Gold Coast Crime Watch FB site:

https://www.facebook.com/CrimeWatch.GoldCoast/posts/787443261300715

"Forensic officers called in to determine if large bones in Carrara drain are human"
http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au...-drain-are-human/story-fnje8bkv-1226988077448

As mentioned in the first thread the finding of these bones is very close to where Novy's car was found:
https://www.google.com.au/maps/dir/...3e7b92108494af!2m2!1d153.3441402!2d-28.006141

In an earlier post of mine I made a timeline of the events at the time of Novy's dissappearance:
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...mera-Qld-6th-Feb-2013&p=10231734#post10231734

One quote in particular from the timeline comes to mind:
Later Thursday night: Police has obtained CCTV footage and information from the forensic locksmith, the car's manufacturer in Sweden that shows the car was moved Thursday night. "We belive the vehicle was collected, driven away and returned about six minutes later and parked on the opposite side of the road"

Good -- thanks for that reminder - SIX minutes.. and the bones are found a FIVE min drive away.... gave me chills, there.

Something's bugging me about the suitcases, also.. (just a reminder to self to look the info up when I have time).

I found an article with the title "Bones found at Carrara drain likely to be from animal"
https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=carrara+drain+bones+likely+to+be+from+animal
Unfortunately it's pay-walled (and the title doesn't really indicate if there was a result of the forensic investigations yet)

Regarding the suitcases nothing has been out except info that it was a black and red suitcase. One would imagine they knew the brand and sizes of them (but maybe Mr. Chardon forgot those details)

Thanks, Good.. I kind of had a feeling they'd be from an animal, so many in one place like that. :( It's just exciting to think she's finally to be found, and maybe therefore a lot of new evidence to help put her killers away.

I couldn't get behind the paywall either ... but I noticed that the article was published the day after the bones were found.
