GUILTY KS - Cadence Harris, 5, abducted, shot dead in front of police, 18 July 2014

A child, reported to be as young as four, has been abducted and then shot dead in front of police in Leavenworth, Kansas, Friday evening. The suspect, who'd been in a car chase with police, then got out of the vehicle and began shooting at police.

Police then shot and injured him and the man is in hospital. Witnesses identified him as the boyfriend of the little girl's mother.

No identities have been revealed yet as the story is still breaking.

Journalists are at the scene. It seems the driver hit a crash barrier or something so the vehicle came to a halt with police surrounding him - so he just turned around and shot the child dead inside the car.

Kitchens said the two officers involved in the shooting would be getting psychological help to deal with the tragedy.

Basically, the suspect's family are saying he loved Cadence and would never have hurt her.

Christie Harris, the little one's mom, said he was high and pulled out a gun when he drove off with the child.

'Christie Harris, Cadence's mother, said McGowan has a history of domestic violence in an interview with 41 Action News. She also told the station that McGowan was under the influence of drugs.
