Dave Schroeder, 46, is assumed to have left his house on foot in September 2012 with no phone or wallet, wearing a blue shirt from his church, Journey Lutheran.

Dave is 6'5" tall, 300 pounds with black/gray hair and brown eyes.

Article from last year:

Dave Schroeder, 45, a diabetic, has been missing for more than seven months, since he walked away from his home without his medication, wallet, or cellphone on Sept. 22...

Additional search attempts aren’t planned, Yehle said. The search might resume when the water recedes in Brown’s Marsh and a dog trained to pinpoint human remains can be deployed, he said. A cadaver dog has shown interest in several areas but appeared to have lost the scent, Yehle said.

The disappearance is perplexing authorities. Schroeder didn’t leave a note, and phone records hold no clues, either. “There’s no indication he planned to do this,” Yehle said.

Dave left his home, wife, and three kids in the afternoon on September 22 two years ago. He also left his keys, wallet, and phone behind. Any leads investigators have come up with have found no answers.

Dave had diabetes and other health problems so doctors believe he couldn't have lived long without his medicine. The family had Dave declared dead in March so they could collect his life insurance.

His wife stays home with their son who is disabled and been in the hospital 11 times in the past 24 months.

"Three years later, man’s disappearance leaves family in a pinch"

Since Sept. 22, 2012, Karla Schroeder feels she has been living in “the land of not knowing.” That day three years ago her husband, David, went missing and has not been seen since.

“It’s an ambiguous loss,” said Schroeder. “We don’t have any answers. It’s a speculation game; everyone can make their own guesses.”

As time goes on in the grief cycle, Karla is remembering more of the good times and less of the trauma involve with David’s disappearance. Life changes are helping her to adjust to life without her husband. Those changes include a recent wedding of her oldest son and the arrival of another grandchild.

“After almost three years, I’m kind of getting back to myself,” said Karla. “You continue to go on with your life, but every day you go through, it’s always in the back of your mind. Even though they may be moving on, part of survivors are still stuck.”

David is still missing and his loved ones are still posting on his missing page. Bumping for him

David Schroeder was last seen on September 22, 2012 at his home in Brice Prairie, Wisconsin.

Dave mentioned not feeling well while they were at church, so his wife, Karla dropped him off at home. He told her he would lay down and get some rest. Karla then headed back to church, leaving their home around 2:10 pm.

Schroeder’s oldest son arrived around 15 minutes later but his father was not there. He apparently left on foot without his money, wallet phone, ID or his medication that is necessary to control his diabetes.

Karla knew something was wrong and reported her husband missing, but because David was an adult, police would not initiate a search until five days had passed.

Scent dogs had tracked David's scent across the street and about a mile along the railroad tracks, but then lost his scent. Despite extensive searches using helicopters, the DNR (Department of Natural Resources), and tracking and cadaver dogs nothing was found.

David is described as a dedicated father to his sons, his youngest son had a severe disability. He was a loving husband, and he and Karla had just celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary. He was also very active at his church and played guitar at Sunday services. It would be out of character for him to just leave.

David was declared legally dead a year and a half after he was last seen. Schroeder's case remains unsolved.

<<Karla Schroeder says he had been depressed the last couple of days, due in part to the pressures of taking care of their son with special needs.

A police report says he was intoxicated at the time.

It also alleges he was out drinking all the night before and had run-ins with employees at Hooters and Walmart.
The lead investigator in the case says it could have played a role in why he left.

“My feeling is that he left despondent about his life situation,” said Sgt. Mark Yehle with the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department.>>

Details of Disappearance

Schroeder was last seen at his Brice Prairie, Wisconsin home on September 22, 2012. His wife took him home from church early because he wasn't feeling well. His wife dropped him off home at 2:10 p.m. and he said he would try to get some sleep.

Schroeder's oldest son arrived home within about fifteen minutes; by then, Schroeder was gone. He had apparently left on foot and without his money, wallet, cellular phone or identification.

The police didn't initiate a search until five days had passed. A dog tracked Schroeder's scent for a mile along some nearby railroad tracks, then lost the trail. He has never been heard from again.

It's extremely uncharacteristic of Schroeder to leave without warning. He is described as a devoted parent to his three sons, the youngest of whom was severely disabled. He was also was active in his local church and played the guitar at Sunday services.

He disappeared a week after his 16th wedding anniversary and he and his wife were not having any problems in their marriage, but she stated that prior to his disappearance Schroeder had been acting as if something was bothering him.

Schroeder's family believes he's deceased and they had him declared legally dead a year and a half after he was last seen. His youngest son died in November 2015, at the age of thirteen. Schroeder's case remains unsolved.
