Found Deceased TX - Blanca Pena Miranda, 43, Harris County, 26 July 2014

Texas Equusearch is helping in the search for a missing woman who disappeared from her Harris County home on Saturday.

Harris County deputies responded to Blanca Pena Miranda's home after she did not show up to work Saturday. Deputies said they found blood in several rooms of her home and the back door showed signs of a break-in.

A search is underway right now for a missing northwest Harris County woman last seen on Friday.

Texas Equusearch has set up a staging area on Veterans Memorial at West Richey as they search a large brushy area for Blanca Pena, 43. She is around 5 feet tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds. She has brown eyes and a medium complexion.

Texas EquuSearch will have one hand tied behind its back as the search continues Monday for a missing north Harris County woman.

Fresh off a court ruling that temporarily allows Texas EquuSearch to use drones when searching for missing persons, the group’s executive director, Tim Miller, said they can’t fly the unmanned craft in this particular search.

“Unfortunately, we are in Intercontinental Airport‘s airspace,” Miller said.

About a dozen volunteers gathered Monday morning in the 1200 block of Veterans Memorial. They said there was no specific tip that brought them, but it is close to Pena’s home and it seemed like an obvious place to start, based on their experience.

Equusearch began to canvas the area on Sunday.

“We know this is the last place that she was seen,” said Tim Miller, with Equusearch. “We always start at the last place they were seen and then kind of spread out from there. So we’re looking at areas that are convenient to dump somebody, where you can’t be seen, where people dump trash.”

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene after a woman’s body was found in a wooded area in northwest Harris County. The body was discovered just north of Klein Forest High School Monday afternoon.

Investigators have not determined if the body is Blanca Pena Miranda, who went missing from her home on Saturday.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences arrived and recovered the body. Deputies said based on the family's description and items recovered at the scene, they believe it is Pena.

However, a positive identification and manner of death are pending an autopsy.

Medical examiners formally identified a body found Monday near a bayou in northwest Harris County as Blanca Pena, 43, who had been missing since July 26.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said on Friday the fingerprints were a match for Pena, who lived in the 3700 block of Farlan in north Harris County.

The primary cause of death is listed as sharp force injuries to the neck.
