He'd only been looking after this 6 week old baby for two hours, at his own request. And had been getting obsessive about his new girlfriend, baby Alfie's Mother....And he tried to blame emergency responders for the injuries. He was still cleared of murder though, and just found guilty of manslaughter.

Family will be making a statement soon.

'A man has been found guilty of killing his girlfriend's six-week-old son by beating him repeatedly with a shoe and plastic bottle.

Michael John Pearce was babysitting Alfie Sullock at his home in a south Wales village while the child's mother, Donna Sullock, went for her first night out since giving birth.

Pearce claimed he had no idea how Alfie came by his injuries. He said he left Alfie for "30 seconds" while he went to the toilet and noticed the child had stopped breathing on his return. Pearce also claimed that paramedics shook Alfie on their arrival – which ambulance staff dispute'

Michael Pearce, 33, was accused of beating baby Alfie Sullock with a baseball boot and bottles of bubble bath and baby powder as he babysat at his home in Nelson, near Merthyr, last summer.

But the jury of eight men and four women rejected the prosecution case that Pearce had deliberately beaten Alfie to death, inflicting fatal brain injuries during a motiveless attack.

Boyfriend Pearce had encouraged the new mum to go out for an evening with “the girls” by volunteering to babysit. He texted her photographs of Alfie during the evening claiming it was to “reassure” her the baby was okay.

In reality Alfie had almost certainly already been fatally injured and the photographs were part of Pearce’s frantic cover up efforts to make it appear the baby was healthy and unhurt.

:furious: :furious: :furious: manslaughter???? SERIOUSLY?

The verdict of manslaughter just doesn't make sense to me! I don't understand the law!

The jury couldn't think of a motive? Impatient, coldhearted boyfriends don't always need complicated 'motives' to beat a baby to death.

How about the kid was crying too much? Or he kept soiling his diapers? Plenty of kids have been beaten to death for those exact 'motives.'

Maybe he wanted to play his PS3 or sext someone? Or he was mad that his girlfriend was out so late that night?

Manslaughter? He beats a newborn to death and gets manslaughter? FGS

'On the night Alfie was taken to hospital, magistrate's son Pearce had drunk five pints of beer on the night he babysat - four of them in 45 minutes.

But less than half an hour into her night out, the pair exchanged a series of text messages.

Pearce maintained Alfie was fine but shortly after he sent a text saying, "you can trust me" he dialled 999 and called Ms Sullock to say Alfie had stopped breathing and was being taken to Prince Charles Hospital.

After deliberating for 35 hours and 56 minutes, the jury decided by a majority verdict of 10-2 that Pearce was guilty of manslaughter but cleared him of murder.'

:( regret having read this one. That was nothing short of outrageous that verdict :burn:

The manslaughter verdit was the jury's decision. The jury returned with the manslaughter verdict.
I don't know how the members of that jury can live with themselves.
I think the 5 pints of beer Pearce had drunk, 4 of them in just 45 minutes, means that HE WAS DRUNK, and not capable of looking after a 6 week old baby. How do they see that as manslaughter.
There was no justice for 6 week old Alfie.

Disgusted beyond words.

Did the Pinellas jury travel to the UK?
