It's an uncanny resemblance; look at the neck area in each, one almost looks like a photoshop of the other. I think if Bittrolff grew his beard out a little, the extra gray would make the resemblance even more acute.

    Criminal Anthropology

So I heard back from a friend of mine who is a research psychologist. I asked him about JB's wonk ear (recall the link I previously posted) and that weird wrinkle pattern on his head. Here's what my friend said:

You are on to something. There is a small branch of study called criminal anthropology that looks at physical measurements and deformities of criminals to assess for markers. There has also been histories of either head infections or head injuries in killers like Berkowitz and Gacy. Also Limbic or temporal lobe seizures are very common in serial killers childhoods. Prefrontal cortex abnormalities are also very common.
Based on the fact that the weird area is around his forehead, I would venture to guess that JB has a prefrontal cortex abnormality.

If you haven't read this book, you should. It's probably the most comprehensive work on the topic to date. I know it changed the way I view serial killers and habitual violent offenders. Where John Douglas is the"Mindhunter", Dr. Pincus is the "Brainhunter"

    Thanks!

I'd also recommend The Psychopath Inside, in which the neuroscientist author discovers that HE is a psychopath, and delves into both the genetic and environmental factors that lead to violence in psychopaths. Warning: the author's narcissism bleeds through his words, but the book is fascinating. Especially the discussion of genes that have been linked to violence.

This is a question I have struggles with for many years. I've seen psychopaths described as "people who aren't people." But can we blame them and punish them for something that they seemingly can't control? No doubt they should be locked up either way. But it's an interesting ethical conundrum, IMO.

I wonder if he worked construction in midtown. There's that case of the girl in midtown who was found buried in the concrete of a building they think from late 80's early 90's. They said it was likely a construction worker since she was in the cement. Obviously not Bittrolff's MO but it still want to know whether he works in the city or ever has.

    FYI
For those unfamiliar with Long Island, construction workers in all phases, handymen, landscapers & the such are a dime a dozen for every reason from retirees to those on disability to those with records in need of being employed but have difficulty with being hired as a result. Everyone & their brother knows someone in the construction field.

The guys who lay claim to be in those trades are a dime a dozen, the guys who have the knowledge and skills to execute what you're looking for are a little bit harder to find. Just a little FYI.

    Off topic, but...
That's an absolute fact, Mcme. I'm having major restoration issues right now and can't tell you how many construction companies I've gone through just trying to get an estimate, and feel secure in the quality of their work. Half of them don't carry enough insurance for the type of work I need them to do, some don't want to take on the depth of work that I know needs to be done and try instead to sell me crap like gutters or new roofs (hello? my house is sinking, idiots!), one company told me they'd have to tear up every floor in my house to get to the major support beam underneath, and several of the larger, more reputable companies never even returned my call...even AFTER they had come out to do an estimate. I WISH good construction companies were a dime a dozen, then my house would have already been fixed.

I just thought about the killings happening in the summer months and the killers shoe fetish. Maybe he has summer sandal fetish to be more precise.

Which killings are you referring to, Birdies? Rita was murdered in Nov. and Colleen was murdered in Jan. Nothing reported about missing shoes in those cases.

I was referring to LISK..sorry I was not clear. My point is that JB is not LISK, who has a shoe fetish it appears. So, I was thinking maybe LISK has a sandle fetish because of the summer months.

I have changed my mind and think there is more than one serial killer.
