    Big birth announcement in Scotland!

Edinburgh's abuzz with news the city zoo may have a new, first-time mother as early as next month. Panda Tian Tian is (almost certainly) expecting, after three years of failed hopes.

Baby daddy is German; he's called Bao Bao. Best not to mention that to Tian Tian's English panda partner though.

And in case anyone was wondering, a panda pregnancy lasts about 5 months and there are ways to tell if a female's expecting, but it's all a little complicated. Full details at this link.

Oh. Zookeepers are afraid Tian Tian may lose her baby, with the stress of low-flying aircraft arriving for the Edinburgh Festival. They asked authorities for an official restriction on low flights, which they'd happily done earlier in the year for the penguin breeding season. They said no.

Although now, they're denying they said no, or that they even received a request??

And in other pregnant panda news, Chinese keepers say they believe giant panda Ai Hin has been pretending to be pregnant, in order to get extra buns and beanshoots!

If they are Chinese peanut buns she gets, I don't blame her. They are SO delicious....I haven't been able to get a hold of one for about 6 years.

This was meant to be news to make people smile, but it looks like Tian Tian may have miscarried her baby now, the second in a year. There is still some hope though, with evidence of high progesterone levels.

Different Panda but a funny story.

Giant panda ‘faked pregnancy for extra treats and nicer accommodation’

Giant panda Ai Hin may have faked her pregnancy for a 'better quality of life'

The six-year-old had shown signs of pregnancy last month, according to staff at the Chengdu Breeding Research Centre, in China's southwestern province of Sichuana.
But shortly after being moved to a single room with air conditioning and around-the-clock care her “behaviour and physiological indexes returned to normal”.
