Some pictures just make me smile. Amid all the gloomy news this morning, up popped this news of Alphie 'sailing' into Australia's Sydney harbour.

I hope it doesn't meet the fate of China's much-loved, giant yellow duck; that broke anchor during a flood, and washed away. In fact, I think that may have been the same giant duck that was in Sydney, last year.

'An ancient marvel of the sea is gracing Sydney Harbour. Belly down, it has glided past yachts and waterfront homes, a beast of inflated proportions, before coming to rest at a secret location.
Is it a bird? A plane? No, it's Alphie, a 15-metre inflatable turtle here to bring art to the people of Sydney. '

'Alphie is moored at a secret location but will begin his cruise past the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House on Friday at 9am, then to Cockle Bay where he will be berthed.'

Here's some info about the difficulties of making Alphie:

'Sourcing the turtle was a fun project for Hornet, but not without challenges! We had to source a factory which could create a one-off custom turtle. We needed precise material specifications. The skin needed to be waterproof, light enough to stay inflated and strong enough to resist punctures. Finally, we had to ensure accurate reproduction of an original artwork, while translating from a flat canvas to a 3D surface. In every way, the Alpha Turtle is an artwork himself!'

Photo Link: This tweeter captured by far the best photo I've seen of Alphie and is really pleased he's discovered the name - he doesn't know what we know though; that Alphie's real name is Alpha Turtle (see link above).

I wonder how secret the 'secret' location is? Alphie's 49 feet long!
