District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said Goodwin was hired to care for Rabourn’s 91-year-old wife, Carolyn, who died in hospice care... She was also entrusted to handle Gerald Rabourn’s financial affairs, and within days of his wife’s death, the defendant began converting his assets to her own personal use, Dumanis alleged.

Goodwin dissuaded family members from contacting police by giving them inconsistent reports regarding the victim’s whereabouts and feigned contact with him, Dumanis said.

Authorities said there was an abrupt end to Gerald Rabourn’s family contacts, cell phone use and financial activity after Oct. 21, 2010. After that date, his signature on a document to sell the family home for $300,000 and title documents to transfer his car were forged, authorities said.

Court documents obtained by 10News showed Goodwin may have more elderly victims and may have received help from her mother, Helen Lock. A search warrant affidavit names Lock as a possible accomplice in other cases, and court documents show a police investigator believed "the Rabourn estate is not the only victim Goodwin and Lock have embezzled money from."

Lock is listed on 44 cases dealing with families' estates, but court documents show she nor her daughter are licensed to do so. Lock did have a company called Probate Support Services, but its status is suspended. The duo is accused of mishandling money for several trusts, and the daughter of one victim said she "filed complaints against Lock with Adult Protective Services (APS) in San Diego."

An accountant for another family said he "had concerns when he saw $200,000 of Norris trust money being used to set up an educational trust in the name of Goodwin's son."

Jurors on Tuesday began deliberating the fate of a caretaker accused of stealing more than $500,000 from an 88-year-old Rancho Bernardo man before killing him so she could carry out her plan to become independently wealthy...

In his closing argument, Deputy District Attorney Bill Mitchell told jurors that Goodwin was a “predator disguised as a caregiver,” who targeted elderly men with money and no family nearby.

Special Circumstance murder - for financial gain. That will count at sentencing.

Helen Lock, Goodwin's mom? Listed on 44 cases of family's estates, but had no license to do so?

Where Is Denise Goodwin Now?
She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and is currently incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility Chowchilla, California.
Till today, authorities haven’t been able to discover Gerald’s body or uncover the cause of his death.
